I was looking at the Lightfield Slugs website looking for a variety of slugs for my new Remington 870 Express Super Slug Deer 23" Fully Rifled Cantilever barrel. I'm going to be testing alot of different brands to see which performs best for this barrel.

Their prices were on the high end, but looked impressive from the video. Anyone have any experience or thoughts concerning these slugs in 2 3/4 or 3" length?

When I first got my 870 I tried Lightfields, Remington CopperSolids, & Federal Sabots(whatever they were.) Lightfields had the tightest group at about 3 inches, then the remingtons at about 4 and then federals at about 4, they were all ok by me, but I went with the Lightfields. Then I found they older man who made custom ammo. And I was shooting really tight groups at 50 yards. Under 2 inches. But just this past season everyone started complaining about his loads. So this summer I am going back to lightfields or something else, I am going to buy a box of each I can and shoot them for the best groups. I have faith in the lightfields. I also converted my dad to lightfields in his Mossberg 695. I was shooting 2 3/4, but next year I am going to use the 3".

Your gun might be very different from mine. My barrel isn't remington. I got it in a deal from the gun shop.

At what distance were you shooting 4" groups?

Thank you 5ptdeerhunter. Was the barrel you were using rifled with the 4" groups? Scoped or rifled sights, and what distance were you shooting from?

I have a 20" fully rifled cantilever barrel, I wish now that I would have gotten the rifle sites and just added the scope mount, but this works ok as long as the deer is standing still. I was shooting at 50 yards. Right now the brand of barrell doesn't come to mind, but I believe it was made in France.

Also I should mention my bad consistency. When I shoot I shoot 3 shot groups. Whenever I try and shoot 4 or 5 I always screw up my groups. I get really nervous when my grouping starts out good, that I might have a good 5 shot group for a change. So then the group expands to close to 8". So I just shoot 3 without looking at the target to closely. The same thing happens with my 17hmr. I can usually have the first 3 holes touching. Then the 4th and 5th shots ruin my group.

Lightfield 1 1/4 ounce 2 3/4 inch slugs shoot decent out of my Ithaca 87. We're talking 3" groups at 50 yards. Not a tack driver, but good for deer in the woods. I've also shot them out of a NEF pardner rifled slug gun, and they shot very well. More like 1 1/2" at 50 yards. Some of that is due to my Ithaca having a 200 lb trigger pull (at least it feels like 200lb) and that Pardner has a surprisingly good, crisp trigger.
