Winchester White Box 9mm Ammo

This may be old news to some of you folks, but it's good news to me. At my local WalMart (Tampa Bay, FL) I purchased a box of 100 rounds of Winchester White Box 9mm 115gr FMJ Range Ammo for $10.96. On the box it says made in the good old USA. Simple math tells me that's $109.60 for a thousand rounds of American made ammunition that you don't have to order and pay shipping charges on. The biggest bonus to me is that I didn't have to order it and wait for it to come by UPS. Bought it and used it the same day.
I don't know if that's a great price in other parts of our great country, but I know it is for this area.
Just thought I'd share that with you good folks.

I like the 100 round packs. I wish they had them in .40 S&W.

The white box W/W USA hollowpoints in 9mm, .357 magnum, .40 S&W, and .45 acp all work well also.
They cost about 60% of what other brands are sold for, and are generally accurate and reliable.

I've got nearly 1000 rounds of the stuff laying around.
It's good ammo. The best thing about it (besides the price) is the fact that it goes *bang* everytime you pull the trigger.;)

Over 700 rounds of white box without a problem in my new 75BD.
Same price, $10.96 at WalMart in Greater Cleveland.

March 12, 2003, 09:07 PM
same price here in Oregon (with no sales tax!) ..........the only thing I go to Wal*Mart for
It is a bit dirty and will foul my P7 after a few 100 rounds and it is pretty wimpy compared to S&B but for the price there is no better deal on 'range' ammo. I need to clean the P7 more often anyways!

Yup, good ammo, I've used several cases in the last year with not one problem round.

reliable, relatively accurate...just dirty as hell. but, well worth it for the price.

LOL, The Wally World on S. Dale MAbry never has any, we usually travel across Gandy and hit up the Super Wally World on 19 or The one in Oldsmar. Of course, I have not a 9mm so it matters not to me. My biddy sure digs it though. *sigh* While I still shell (no pun intended) out about $14+tax per box for my .45...

3000+ rounds & counting since last year and a total of ONE bad round in the bunch. I like'em for practice & IDPA :D

Yeah, they are sold out about half the time, so when I make it to wallyworld, I usually spend 109.60 or so...

If you are getting serious about bullseye shooting and your groups are getting REALLY tight, you may want to buy better quality ammo or roll your own - that said, dollar for dollar, this stuff is the best value out there.
...as if I can tell the difference between ammo performance shooting after a latte and little sleep....
Walmart has these in stock about 40% of the time I go - maybe guys are hording because, in the past, I've horded the value packs. ;)

Old to a lot of us, but since the info was new to you, it will be to several others too. :D
Sometimes I can get 9mm FMJ cheaper online including shipping by the time I end up going to Wal-Mart and paying sales tax, but not often.
I've never had a bad round of WWB nor do I have any complaint about its accuracy.

That stuff works really good. I've run it through my 9mm pistols without a hitch. I also run tons of it through 9mm ARs. They love the stuff!

It works great in my CZ 75B, my best friend's CZ 85B and his Kahr MK9. It worked fine in the Ruger P89 I used to have too. If it works in your gun it is a very great deal in 9mm (I do like S&B and Fiochi for cheap ammo too). Unfortunately, it seems to have a problem in some guns so don't stock up until you've fired a box or so out of the gun you intend to use it in to be sure it is a workable combination.

I had one yesterday with a dent in the case. Should have been fine, but I didnt load it. Anyone else notice there is usually 101 in a box?

:) Yes, I always seem to get 101 in each box. (I always transfer the loose rounds into 2 50-round boxes. I always have 1 left over! )
It is about all I shoot anymore. I occasionally shoot the cheap Winchester "Personal Protection" loads too. I can afford to have PLENTY of the PP loads around for all those SHTF/roving Zombie situations that might crop up. ;)
I think the 100-round value pack is pretty decent for the price. (Although my Beretta looks kinda dirty after the last range trip - that never happened with Winchester Winclean.)

We have to pay almost 10% sales tax, here in Tenn., but it is still as cheap as any brass cased that I can get online.
My P95 and my Kahr PM9 really like the Wally World Win. White box.
Wife, (as we are headed toward the cash register):
Can you think of anything else we need?
Me:
Well, why don't we just check out back at sporting goods.
Shorter lines, you know. Hmmmm...... I might get some ammo while we're at it.
Wife:
(rolls eyes) Again? You haven't been shooting since you got your last ammo. :D

I discovered this ammo about six months ago. You are right, it's great stuff and probably one of the best prices you can find! I bought some of their JHP to see if it is as good.

Does it come in 45 ACP flavor?
Walt Sherrill

and a differing opinion...
WWB in the Value Packs is cheap, to be sure. And generally reliable. But I find it not to be as accurate as other low-priced stuff.
The Value Pack brass seems to be different than the stuff sold in the 50-round boxes. (Check the extractor groove...) The Value Pack ammo causes some extraction problems with some guns. If it shoot and extracts well in your gun, its a non-issue.
I much prefer CCI/BLazer (not reloadable) or
Sellier & Bellot, PMP, Denel, MagTech, and IMI, when I can find it. Prices are generally similar, on the net.
The regular WWB (50-round boxes) seems to be much better ammo.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! They are out of this about 50% of the time I go to buy it. I think you just ensured that they will be out all the time now. Lol.
I do think this is the best deal around. Also I like the Federal bulk boxes of 22lr. I have also bought the 40 packs of 223 there. I wish they had a 100 pack of 45acp. :)

$11.76 with tax here in the Vast Sonoran Desert!! Many a ten and two ones have passed over my local Wallyworld counter!! So much so that they don't bother to ask me if it is for a handgun anymore and when they see me coming, they have the ammo cabnet open and ready!!! :D

It's funny, the clerks at Wal-mart don't seem to know when they have it or not, but all of us do. (pssst.. dude I was just at wal-mart but you better get here in a hurry they only have 6 cases left.. I had to rent a forklift to get my purchase out the door!)
I've shot a ton of that stuff for IDPA. what suprises me is it's remarkable clean burning. Good stuff. It's not cheaper than reloading, unless you count the man hours required to DO reloading.

The only problem I've found is that one or two rounds in 50 won't extract from my wife's USP. It jams and when you look, the empty case is stuck in the chamber--no rim damage or anything.
If I drop the slide by hand on the empty case the extractor will catch the rim and the case extracts manually on the first try. I can't figure that one out except that the rims are a little different that on the other 9mm ammo I've compared it to.
The stuff is very accurate in my guns. I shoot it nearly exclusively these days.

I can't figure that one out except that the rims are a little different that on the other 9mm ammo I've compared it to.I just compared the rims of a new WWB and a new S&B casing (both 115gr FMJ). The WWB rim is just a hair bigger in diameter (0.00025"), the diameter of the groove is 0.0005" smaller, and the radius on the back of the rim is a bit shallower.
For all practical purposes, they're the same, but that's from comparing only two rounds.

Masterchief,
I have been shooting if for about a year now and no problems.
It's good ammo for all my nines.
I reload the brass and it seems to run fine...till I lose it.
And about 8 of 10 boxes DO have 101 rounds.
If your pistols will run on it count youself among the lucky.
I wish there was 45ACP version of the ValuPack.
This ammo caused me to try the Winchester 223 Varmit Bullets that also sell at WalMArt. 40 rounds per box. It has also turned out to be a winner in my guns. Very accurate.
S-
On a side note.
The range I shoot at has some form of Winchester that they sell at the range that isn't even boxed. Comes in styrofoam trays.
IMO that stuff is truely crap. I'm not a world class shot but that stuff was horrid.

I have shot some of it, it works fine. It was a bit dirty, decently accurate, about average for ball ammo. At the rate some of you guys shoot you NEED to start reloading. You can pay for a Dillon 550B in about 5000 rounds with the savings over the white box Winchesters!!! If you shoot other calibers or specialty ammo the savings adds up a LOT faster.
I am loading the equivalent ammo to the whitebox 9mm (clean as can be to shoot too) for $2.90 ber box, or $5.80 per 100. $58 per thousand is a savings of about $60-75 depending on your location vs buying it at wally world.
The real upside to loading is when you pay for the press with the "savings" you can start shooting a LOT more for the same costs. Shoot more and shoot better.

I've put a few boxes of the Wally World Stuff through my 226. Poor pistol hated the stuff. Wish that Winchester made the 100ct boxes in 124gr.
Overall it shoots well through most of the guns that I have fed it. The P99 will digest the stuff all day.
Only problems I've had was a boxful of weak loads.

My Glock loves that stuff. Eats it all day long then begs for more. And it's easy on the wallet too what more could one ask for:D

I also prefer Blazer. Win Val Pack is under powered and very dirty. In my neck of the woods the Win Val Packs sell for $10.96 and Blazer for $5.90 for 50. I rather spend the 84 cents and get the cleaner Blazer.

I have read this on other Gun Forums: the regular Winchester USA brand ammo has a COPPER colored bullet; the Value Pak 9mm has a BRASS colored bullet. More than one 'authority' claims
that some Winchester ammo is made in Israel and the Value Pack 9mm is meant for automatic weapons...thus, the lower price and odd-shaped casings. Don't flame me, that's just what I have read; BTW, my S&W 9mm loves the stuff!

hansolo,
If it were made in Israel it would have to say so in the box.
IMI ammo runs hot a lot hotter than than Win Val Pack. I don't think the Win Val Pack is hot enough to run in sub guns. :)

I happened to be in the Sports Authority today and bought a box. They have it for a buck more than Walmart and it is still a bargain. I paid the extra buck since I'm going shooting tomorrow and I wasn't sure if I'd get to Walmart today. Well I did and they have it on sale for a buck cheaper than usual ($9.96) so I picked up several more boxes for later. Can I say again that this stuff is a great deal (if it works in your gun)?
hansolo,
I have read that before too, and I may have passed it along before (the Israeli made part anyway). Well, if you look at the bullet from the Value Pack and the bullet from the 50 round packs the bullets are certainly different. However, both boxes do say "Made in the USA" on them (when I had heard, and believed, the made in Israel claim I did pass that info around- I hope I didn't give it to you). The made for automatic weapons may make sense, it would possibly explain the different shape to the bullet.

"At the rate some of you guys shoot you NEED to start reloading."
To start reloading, though, you need a good source for brass. And, IMO, you cannot have enough brass. Can't reload Blazer too.
