Good times cleanin' the SIG.

Took the P220 to the range and put 100 rounds of WWB through it.

I was shooting poorly but it was still fun.

When I got home I set to cleaning it and my seven y.o. daughter stayed and watched the whole thing. I explained what I was doing and what the names of each part was and the purpose of said part.

I explained that the SIG line of pistols are the best made for a number of reasons including:

1. Accuracy

2. SA trigger pull

3. DA trigger pull

4. Decocker

5. No safety levers to mess around with

6. Ease of teardown, cleaning and reassembly

7. Ergonomics

8. Looks

Of course she believed me, as she should. As I would not steer her wrong.

I even tore down the mags and gave them a good scrubbing.

Good thing, too. They were absolutely filthy. They took more cleaning than the gun.

Everything then got a silcone cloth rubdown, the brushes were cleaned and everything put away until next time.

She seemed to enjoy it. Next time I'll let her help a bit. Though I do have a concern about her getting the cleaner on her skin.

She learned that a clean gun is a happy gun, and if you take good care of it it will take good care of you.

She learned that TV shows and movies are the worst places to learn about firearms. I referenced the CSI:Miami ep where Speed got killed 'cause his gun was so dirty. Dirty because he had not cleaned it after his last qual and what would normally be a small amount of smudge and grit was shown as a huge pile of crud. And it was a SIG! :fire: It should have fired even with what was jammed in there.

She also learned that if you are not careful when removing the baseplate of the mag, you'll have to get out of your chair and walk across the room to retrieve the spring.

So I am turing her into a gunnie, one little step at a time.
