Have any of you ever defended yourself with knife?

Have any of you ever defended yourself from a knife?

In my case, the latter instead of the former. (I'm counting a screw driver shiv and a Buck 110 folder as the two occurances)

I have not. Miss Demeanors from TFL doesn't post here much, but she once put the point of a Spyderco into the hand of a bum who attacked her in a grocery-store parking lot in nearly-beautiful downtown Des Plaines.

I had a bum who was someplace he shouldn't have been brandish and threaten me with an "Old Timer" sheath knife - the one with the kinda leaf shaped blade. I placed my hand at strong side 4 o'clock and he decided he didn't feel lucky that day. I felt lucky he didn't call my bluff.:D

I once had an urban outdoorsman nesting in the back lot of our apartment building.

He brandished a straight razor at my roommate and I one night.
Feeling somewhat nervous about that, I kinda sorta brandished a really large revolver back.

He had moved on when I went out to check the next day.

Yes

I used to hitch-hike everywhere in my youth,my Case Trapper trumped a broken beer bottle--driver pulled over unexpectedly.

Wife at the time ran into pharmacy for a script, I was outside waiting in truck, drunk/high scum pulled a knife on her as she exited. He dropped the script, and quit talking about all the things he was gonna do to her when I introduced him to Mr. 45ACP.

Few months ago leaving a Federal Bldg, with metal detectors I wasn't CCW. I used a broken bottle, hands and antenna I broke off a car , disarmed one-with a small nickel semi, other one had a knife third guy took off running. Had to heal up myself, but I inflicted much 'hurt'- 3rd guy caught later(somehow I managed to get plates)

Used to be in a high risk business, still practice SA and watch six.

Still pisses me about being legal and restricted where one can CCW--see why I say level the playing field --BG's know where one can't carry.

I stabbed a young gentleman through the "love handle" once, many years ago. He was expressing some dislike of me with blows from a section of broom handle. The thing is, I didn't use a knife. I ran him through with one of those pointy green plastic vials that florists use in making wreaths and such. He screamed and bled much as he would have from a knife wound, though.

Yes - took a knife in the back in South Africa many years ago. It narrowly missed some vital things, and put a permanent notch in one wing of a vertebra. Shot the BG backwards, through the seat of my pants (carrying IWB), giving myself an almighty flash burn on the butt and hitting him on the left testicle with a very high-speed lightweight 9mm. hollowpoint (handloaded). Result - 3 weeks recovery for me, including debridement of much infected tissue, leaving me with a hollow in the back, and his permanent removal from the gene pool, not through death, but through destruction of reproductive capability.

I was fighting a local bully once and he was beating me up good. He pulled his Buck knife and was going to carve me up some, when my Granfather opened the front door to see who was screaming like a girl and his German Sheperd ran out and caught the fat bastard by his double chin. I always did like that dog. Lulu was her name. To bad she died of Cancer. It should of been that fat bastard.

You gentleman have some very interesting experience. I always enjoy reading about others experiences.

As a health care professional who has worked in the ER and ICU, I can truly sympathize with those of you who have had a "penetrating trauma."

To answer the question, no I have not. I hope I never have to, but I train for that eventuality.

I still have a scar on my forearm from an attacker trying to open up my belly during a scuffle. I instinctively blocked the attempt and did not realize I had been cut until after the brawl. I did break every bone in my right hand on the poor guy's face. A girl who witnessed the attack said I "was bleeding" and gave me a handkerchief to tie over the puncture wound. Luckily the knife was only a small folder that probably closed on his hand when it met some resistance.

Brandishing a balisong and using it to defend myself from bullies got me kicked out of public school when I was a kid.

I've been hit across the forehead by a machete-wielding gangbanger while visiting my cousins in the San Gabriel Valley, Ca. Cracked my skull and gave me a decent scar, though it is barely noticeable at the hairline.

Been stabbed in the left hand by one of three thugs during an attempted mugging. I was able to quickly disarm him and put the three of them onto the ground. This was before I carried CCW.

One had a drunk guy try to stick me with a screwdriver. HE swung wide, ripped a hole in my blue jeans, scuffed my leg a little. Heel of my hand to his nose took the fight out of him.

Ah. Well, Preacherman, I guess that explains it. I think... :scrutiny:

:D

Say, maybe you have some input on this:

When I was in the Reserves, we had a Sergeant Major who was a grumpy old Polack. :D Tough guy, too. He said he had been in the Underground (after being interred and escaping, shortly after the German occupation began). Said the current Pope was also a fighter with the Underground. He was fond of saying, "He had blood on his hands and women in his bed more than once."

Now I don't say that to insult Pope John - quite the contrary I think it's a good thing if the Pope has some clue about the real world! Too many "men of the cloth" have no clue about anything beyond the four walls. And a man is no hypocrite who has a change of heart. Anyway, it lines up with what little I do know about John Paul. Do you know much about him?

I have used a knife or sword twice. The sword is probably the most humorous. I had escorted the outgoing District Commanders (Two Star Admiral) parents to the change of command. Uniform was Service Dress Blues with swords for officers, August of or so in New Orleans Ugh. Well after several hours I safely deposited my charges in their hotel room and proceeded home. I was parked in an area that during the day light was not too bad but little did I know that it got bad late. I was returning to my car and passed an alley, I was up next to the curb and after I had cleared the alley by three or four steps someone comes out of the alley and follows me. a few steps later , looking over my shoulder i see a glint in his hand. I stop strong side towards him and he flashes a knife and mutters some threat.. I'm 15' or 20' away. I draw my 34" slash an parry sword and tell him that he ought to get a real knife before he gets hurt. I guess he thought I could use the sword and took off too clean his drawers and find another victim. Several years later I was being followed after a late second shift (no nice people around). I went around a corner pulled out my buck 110 and when he came round the corner after me I just about in his face and suggested he go away or both of us were going to get hurt. He also took the sensible path and left. I hurried home to change my u trou.

I got about 6 or so knife/ jagged/ pointed weapon scars (broken bottles, shivs, ice pick, etc.). Forehead, eyebrow, cheek, crook of arm, couple defensive on both hands...

In addition, I also have one wound each from a foil, epee, and sabre from strip competition. Left arm, chest, and right calf, respectively.

I am too big to dodge I reckon...:)

thread necro!

i've had to defend myself from knife attacks, and i've used a knife in self defense. i grew up in NYC, so it should come as no surprise, but the last time happened in a quiet little town in Northeast PA, which proves that violence happens anywhere, anytime. i was attacked by three large, drunken country boys. it resulted in me needing 18 stitches on my cheek, and a weekend in county, while they racked up:

a lost eye.
a punctured spleen.
two concussions.
multiple lacerations and stab wounds.

i was charged with assault, assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a prohibited offensive weapon. due to the reputation of the three, eyewitness accounts, and the testimony of the PA state trooper who responded to the call, i had all chrages dismissed.

I stopped a 6.4 bout 300 + guy from pounding me at a bar one night after I had bumped into him and had said excuse me and Sorry. He grapped me by the collar and I whipped out my 6 inch boot knife and tickled his ribs. His eyes got big and I repeated I was sorry and asked to be let down and allowed to walk away or we were going to both be hurting really fast. He let me go and said sorry I over reacted I said NO Problem have a nice evening and I left the place.

During the "riots" in '68 I was working in an area I shouldn't have been about 9pm in DC. I got a call from the boss to lock and hole up or leave, my choice. Wrong choice. A 2' piece of 1/2" re-bar works wonders on weapon hands, knees and other body parts with bone close to the surface. I worked midnights there for 17yrs, had a few encounters but didn't get a scratch. Awareness and offensive defense plus improvising weapons made a huge difference.
