The only "shortfall" I have in my 870 is its 2 3/4" chamber. It has an extended forcing cone, threaded chokes, and it works great for everything I do - only thing is, I've only found ONE type of turkey load made for the "normal size" chamber - it seems everything is 3" - 3 1/2" long nowadays.

Where can I find other options for a turkey load in 2 3/4"? I've been looking for a good excuse to buy a MEC - maybe now is the time.......

Federal has several offerings suitable for turkey. Their Mag-Shot Turkey line in High velocity or Magnum each has a 2 3/4 load listed with 4's, 5's, and 6's.

They also have the Premium Wing-Shok line in the same offerings all with copper plated shot.

Just because they advertise Turkey loads, doesn't mean that they will pattern any better through you gun than a good game load with the same offerings of shot in them.

I have an 870 that I use a turkey choke in with a barrel that was cut back to about 20 inches and tapped for a choke. It spits out a really tight pattern, in fact way too tight for anything thats flying. But for a sit still turkey shot it is excellent. I just picked up some number 4's and some number 5's in the heaviest shot load I could find.
