A section of our crime prevention class project deals with this, but not the part I'm working on. Off the top of my head:

Pearle Mississippi
Santee California
Columbine
Appalachian School of Law
Recent one in MN, forget the place

A quick google search should yield dates and names.

* On May 25, 1997 18-year-old Jeremy Strohmeyer raped and murdered a 7-year-old African American girl in a casino outside Las Vegas, NV. Strohmeyer had been diagnosed with ADD and precribed Dexedrine, a Ritalin-like drug.

* On October 1st, 1997, in Pearl, Mississippi, 16-year-old Luke Woodham stabbed his mother, 50-year-old Mary Woodham - to death and then went to his high school where he shot nine people, killing two teenage girls and wounding seven other. Published reports say he was on Prozac.

* Exactly two months later on December 1st, 1997, Michael Carneal, a 14-year-old, opened fire on students at a high school prayer meeting in West Paducah, Kentucky. Three teenagers were killed, five others were wounded, one of whom was paralyzed. Carneal was reportedly on Ritalin.

* Then in February, 1998 a young man in Huntsville, Alabama on Ritalin, went psychotic, chopping up his parents with an ax, and also killing one sibling and almost murdering another.

* On March 24, 1998 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, 11-year-old Andrew Golden and 14-year-old Mitchell Johnson shot 15 people, killing four students, one teacher, and wounding 10 others. According to published reports, the boys were on Ritalin.

* On May 21, 1998 15-year-old Kip Kinkel of Springfield, Oregon murdered his parents and proceeded to his high school where he went on a rampage, killing two students and wounding 22 others. Kinkel hd been prescribed both Prozac and Ritalin.

* On April 16th, 1999, 15-year-old Chawn Cooper of Notus, Idaho took a 12-gauge shotgun to school and started firing, injuring one student and holding the school hostage for about 20 minutes. Terrified students ran for their lives, some barricading themselves in classrooms. Cooper had been taking Ritalin.

* The incident in Idaho did not make the national press, but all that changed four days later when 18-year-old Erica Harris killed 12 students and a teacher at Columbine High School before killing himself. Harris was on one of the SSRI anti-depressants called Luvox.

* One month later to the day, on May 20th, 1999 T.J. Solomon, a 15-year-old high school student in Conyers, Georgia on Ritalin opened fire on and wounded six of his classmates. Thankfully, none were killed.

* Then there's 14-year-old Rod Mathews who had been prescribed Ritalin since the third grade and beat a classmate to death with a bat.

* And 19-year-old James Wilson, who had been on psychiatric drugs for 5 years and took a .22 caliber revolver into an elementary school in Breenwood, South Carolina, killing two young girls and wounding seven other children and two teachers.

The problem with the "drug link" in these shootings is - which came first, the chicken or the egg? We may say (and I share the suspicion) that the use of such drugs contributes to such behavior: but the makers of the drugs say that the underlying mental condition of the shooters is to blame - that's why they were on prescription medication, and that's why they acted as they did. I have to admit that there's some justice to their argument. I wonder if we'll ever find out the truth?

My theory in AHDD is that it is a bogas diagnosis, by any recognised scientific method the data supporting the existance of AHDD would be rejected, Example-If a subset of any researched group were to have deviation from the norm aproching 70% then the norm is wrong (unless the subset was was established and populated with the dieviate group and then the subset would be 100%) yet the phyciatric comunity expects you to buy this as fact, when standard research methods would reject it without batting an eye as flawed.

So the drugs would be the remaining inducer of the actions in question, tbhis being determined by the common thread method although not 100 % accurate it provides a starting point at least one more plauseable than a subset with an greater than 50% deviation from norm. Now that was hard to write but i think in expresses my line of thinking on the topic.

Am I wrong in my methodology?

If so where?

All opinions are welcome but as the moderators will kill this thread if we wander to far from the original hook for the thread, feel free to chime in and if the thread dies e-mail me I am seriously researching this and may write an article about it if i can do a better one than the 3 specific articles on the topic that i have thus far found.

Not considered because of other motives Nathan Brazil, A revenge killing

While researching and verifying this list I came across this article dating back to 2001, http://www.wnd.com/news/printer-friendly.asp?ARTICLE_ID=21250 my topic hasent been ignored by other media, and since it contains a limited subject and data it has become ovious that i cannot compile an "Original" without the apearance of improprity I.E plagerism I am forced to abandon the article, Not because the subject matter is bad but because the other papers have hit it from the same angle including the ADHD angle but it does show beyond any reasonable dobut that as Mr. Metcalff said in the just sited article "It's The Dope"

Basically what these stories all say are there are less kids suicides with a given population of depressed kids with the use of Prozac, but that certain kids who did not have any suicidal tendencies end up killing themselves and that a small but measurable population do infact become outwardly violent when on the drug. One very clear statement that comes out of the research is that ALL of the kids who went outwardly violent ALL had displayed very dramatic changes in personality, demeanor, and outward appearance.

Very simply, if parents and health professionals were simply made aware of these trends, it is very likely that most if not all of the events could have been prevented.

Similar connections can be made to those adults who have been on prozac and who have acted in such a way as to create a meaning for "Postal". There seems to be a very direct relation to behaviors and appearance and demeanor of those people on Prozac and similar drugs.

For may people, Prozac is quite literally a life saver, keeping people in society and in families in ways that are truely impressive, HOWEVER, the risks of people becoming violent while on the drug should require some sort of definitive and required monitoring of those people who are on it.

Littleton is the county seat of Arapaho County. Columbine High School is in unincorporated Jefferson County. Littleton was the dateline and the bulkmail center but not the site. This matters for some analysis because Littleton is an old line (for Colorado settlement) community and Columbine was very much a new community where everybody was freshly from someplace else.

ADHD is likely over diagnosed and Ritalin over prescribed. Never doubt that Ritalin is a life saver and a family saver for some children in some circumstances - call it what you will.
