Bolt 223 + IMR 4895 Loads Needed
Point Blank

Looking for some pet loads for my 10fp 223 Savage.
I'll be using IMR4895 + 53g SMK and 69g SMK bullets only (to start)
Anyone tinker around using this combo?? Will be shooting paper at 100 yards.
Thanks... ;)

I can get under 2" at 200 yards with 28 gr IMR4895 and 55 gr anything in my best .223 rifle, but anything down to 25 gr is accurate too.
Jammed into the lands, 27 gr with 60 gr bullet will make 3485 fps, but back from the lands, 27 gr only makes 3300 fps
What does it all mean?
Watch that OAL.

PB:
I am using 25 gr. H 4895 behind 55 gr. Nos. Bal. Tips in new WW cases & CCI SR primers for average vel. of 3260 fps measured about 15' from muzzle of my 10fp. Getting 5 shot 5/8" groups. 25.5 gr. opened group up to 1" w/3325 mv.
Have yet to play w/seating depth.
Usual disclaimers apply.......start low & work up.
Clark:
I load w/Dillon 450 and 25.5 gr. (dumped from measure) fills case to within 1/8" or so of full . 25 gr. comes to within 3/16" or so from top. Just weighed 27 gr. and dumped from pan and it is level w/top of case (once fired WW cases). Thought perhaps the unfired cases had slightly less capacity than a fired case but didn't seem to be much, if any difference. Are you using a drop tube or is IMR higher density than H 4895? Since the 25 gr. shoots so well in my rifle I'm not planning on upping the load, just curious. Maybe I should get a set of test weights to check my powder scale?? :)

Get some reloading manuals. They have exactly what you are asking.

I am using surplus IMR4895 [bulk], but the powder in the purple cans [canister blend] works the same for me.

H4895 is my favorite powder for light bullets in .223
I use H4895 and 45 grain hornet bullets in my model 700.
You'd prolly want to stick with heavier bullets in your savage because of the twist.
When I had a savage, I used H335, and sierra 68 grain match kings, but I suspect that powders are more versatile than we think.
