I shoot this Browning high power clone this after noon with my handload and experience hammer bit for the first time .I shoot this pistol a lot and never have problem before and it is very puzzling. Only thing that I did to the pistol is to add a thin strip of hockey racket tape on the front and back strap. Can merely milimeter of thin strip alter the grip of the gun so much that it cause hammer bite? Or this have something to do with reload that I use , it is the same charge of Unique (5.3 grain) top with 125 grain lead cast bullet , I have been use this load for years but the recoil felt a little bit snappier this session .Range officer told me that recoil and reload have nothing to do with hammer bit because the hammer will fall on the same spot everytime regardless of how heavy recoil . Can recoil shift my grip some how? but the hockey stick tape seem to give sufficient friction .

The tape is probably effecting your grip. take the tape off and see what the effect is. You didn't say why you started using the tape. If your hand is slipping, you may want to try a glove. I use a weight lifters glove and it works perfectly. It's leather, so no hammer bite eigther, and gives you great wrist support.

I agree, just wear a glove.
These guns are inexpensive and not much point dumping a bunch of money into it for Novak style combat alterations.

I found it was possible to eliminate hammer bite by not gripping the pistol so high up on the grip. Less than a quarter inch eliminates the bite and seems to give me better control.

I put the tape on because the grip is slipperly when my palm sweat or when the oil creep down there . I peel the tape off the back strap and left only portion of it where my ring and pinkie finger rest . I will try this first if not working I will have to wear the glove. Thank everyone for the advice :)
