I recently purchased a .416 Remington magnum and am developing loads for a 400 grain bullet. Has anyone on this forum done this. I'm using IMR 4350 powder.

I have not used 4350, since Reloder 15 is apparently THE powder for the .416 Rem., and mine shoots MOA with it. Any good manual will have R15 data for 400 grain bullets, as that is arguably the most popular .416 load.

This forum caters to the big bore shooters of the world. I used to spend more time there when I had my .375 H&H. I searched "4350" in the reloading section and saw that some of the folks there use it for .416 Remington Magnum. Good luck.

I've had good luck with 87.0 gr. of accurate imr 4350, Fed. 215, Rem. case and 400 gr. Hornady R.N. This is a max load in the Accurate powder reloading manual. I have not run any through a chrono. The rifle is a Remington and it has a 2x scope. I haven"t shot over 100 yds. but at that range it will stay btwn 1-1.5 inch 3 shot groups on the bench with sand bags. Most of the shooting I've done is off hand standing at a 9 inch pie tin at 75 yards. I'm trying to consistantly get 3 shots in ten seconds in the plate. It's not as easy as it sounds.

Re: "accurate IMR 4350." Just to clarify, there is a powder called AA4350 by Accurate Arms (aka Western Powders) and a powder called IMR 4350 by IMR (aka Hodgdon). Hodgdon also has their Hodgdon H4350. Probably should not confuse these.

According to their websites, IMR does not list IMR 4350 for the .416 Rem., while AA lists AA4350 with 400 grain Hdy RN bullets as 78.3-87.0 grains, with velocites from 2155-2449 fps, and Hodgdon lists H4350 with the same bullet as 85.0-88.0 (C) grains; velocities 2305-2395 fps.

You are right. The Accurate manual I have is dated 1998. The loading information is by number only, ie 4350 etc. The powder I'm using is marked "X-truded" by Accurate, XMR 4350. With my tired old eyes I stuck an IMR instead of XMR in there. Rumor has it that it's real close to IMR 4350, but if it isn't I can see some nasty problems. Out of curiosity I looked up the 375 H&H. Max load of XMR 4350 was 79 gr. and in the Hornady book it was 76.3 of IMR 4350 with 300 gr. Accurate is showing a heavier load but also a higher velocity. They don't list presure. All things considered I wouldn't substitute one for the other grain for grain.
