DFW Group Shoot - 04.24.05
TechBrute
April 6, 2005, 11:37 AM
Heaven forbid the weather holds out, but we're scheduling this one for 10AM on Sunday, 04.24.05, at Gibson's. I know at least 2 more people have rifles that didn't before, so we should have a decent turnout this time. For those that don't have rifles, we always have extras! If there's something you'd like to shoot, I'm sure someone in the group has one.
For those that have never been to Gibson's, they have pistol and rifle ranges from 7 to 200 yards. They have a shaded shooting line and benches.
I think the range fees are as follows:
$10 for a yearly membership
$8 per visit
Your first visit there will cost you $18, and visits during the following year will be $8.
There's an Applebee's nearby that I'll vote for having lunch at afterwards to discuss how bad Steve's shooting really is.
I'll be bringing several ARs, an LTR, a FAL, an SKS (if I can get it clean), and anything else I pick up before then. I KNOW Steve, Bill, and Justin are going to be bringing ARs. I'm willing to bet that Jay brings an AR, and there may be a BAR that shows up out there (yes, the cool kind). If Jim and Rob show up, there's bound to be some other interesting hardware out there, as well.

Just a reminder, the range allows most types of rifles and ammo. FMJ is A-OK! Heck, that's why we love this place so much. :D
No shotguns.

So typical of Techbrute to poke fun at my shooting skills to cover up his own problems. Oh well, we all know how he is.
Just kidding, you know I luv ya bro!
I will be there...assuming we have some sort of decent weather. If I dont shoot my AR soon, I think it will rot in the safe. I still need to bring out another new to me pistola to shoot.
As a side note, I will be collecting funds for the THR Server Budget program that is mentioned in the sticky of the General Gun Discussion section. This will be the deadline to submit donations. If you cant make it, please paypal it to me at stevelevi@rmbb.net.
I would love to make a sizeable contribution on behalf of our group to THR all at one time, rather than each of us sending a few bucks here and there. I want the top of THR to know that we are proud users/supporters. Remember, every little bit helps.
See ya at the range.
Oh yeah, Techbrute, since you wont be using your 10 ring, can I borrow it?

Count me in on this one-I feel bad because I made the very first shoot but have not made any since. Will be bringing a Remmy VS in 308, a 270, and maybe my 30-30 too. EBR's are soooo cool, but I like my bolts too.
TechBrute
April 8, 2005, 10:07 AM
Delmar, that's why you need to own both! :D Seriously, we'll have enough EBRs to go around at the shoot.

You make a most excellent point, Techbrute. I'd like to buy something besides a range toy-Something like an M-1A or FAL. I'd like to take either hunting some time.

BAR is ready for 200yds. Got a new case of Korean 30-06 FMJ, has been pretty darned accurate for 70's vintage stuff.
Gotta love a range that takes FMJ so I don't have to put all my ball ammo in
old Remington Hollow Point carboard boxes before I go......

If I'm in town, which is a big "maybe" at this point. Is this place a public range where I can go when I am in town, or a private place that has a shoot every now and then?
Thanks, Rich

Can you give me hours, phone number, address?
thanks again, Rich

Yeah, yeah...
I've got mags for it now. I need to pick up some ammo for it, though. CTD seems to have Federal GM for a (somewhat) reasonable price. I'll be going to the gun show next weekend, and if I can't find it cheaper, then I'll be buying some from CTD. Also need to get a case of 7.63x38, 5.56, .45ACP, 9mm, and .40S&W. My wife is gonna be PO'ed if she sees me unloading it, LOL.

7.63x38 :uhoh: might have a hard time finding that :neener: I'll check the in store price on the GMM at CTD for you tomorrow, I'm gonna go pick up a few more AR mags I think.

ATF called me today to finish up some questions on my SBR Form 1, she said it will go in the mail tomorrow.
So, if I can gather all the pieces in time, I'll be bringing an 11.5" AR to the shoot as well. Get out your extra ear protection, these puppies are LOUD.

I'm an atheist, so Sundays aren't a problem here
And I'm having lunch with Paul on Tuesday, but he's not going to be able to make it to the shoot tomorrow.

Well I am Episcopal, which is like "Diet Catholic - All of the sin but only half of the guilt" so I am covered for an occasional skip. Hey, if our priest can call in a sub for a golf tournament, I can skip to go shooting.

Nice to see everyone again. We had great weather, a nice morning at the range, and some really unhealthy lunch. Tim, hope that napkin digests OK.
There were some starving high-roaders around lunchtime.
A great day

LOL... the "real" food wasn't coming out fast enough. Seriously, though, that was a gigantic cheeseburger they've got. I shouldn't have eaten the whole thing, but it sure was good.

It was good to meet some of you guys, even if only briefly. Thanks for the info on the Garand - I might have to go blow some cash for one. It sure seemed a lot lighter than I was expecting - but then after the BAR, anything would!

Techbrute,
Yup, that was me, celebrating National 7.62x39 Day in the appropriate manner. Guess it's hard to be sociable with ear protectors on. Hi, if I didn't get to meet you.
;)
Delmar,
That was my first time at Gibson's. There's a 200 yard line?
TechBrute
April 27, 2005, 08:10 AM
The 200 yard line is to the left of the 100s and to the right of the 50s, pretty much right in the dead center. I think there's only 2 lanes of 200.
Delmar
April 27, 2005, 08:16 AM
Actually, Techbrute-there are 5 whole lanes in the 200 yard area. Guess that would have caused a bit of crowding! Anyhow, I still had fun and managed to burn up a whole lot of 308. Lets do it again-my rifles just hate sittin around! If the weather cooperates, I'm headed out there again this Saturday.
TechBrute
April 27, 2005, 08:19 AM
I'd go, except I'm have a company retreat this weekend (lame). We're going to do all sorts of great teambuilding exercises, non of which invlolve shooting (contrary to my suggestions.)

April 27, 2005, 09:59 AM
I'm thinking about it, trust me. Not to mention my wife is giving me crap about not being home for family time, etc. I'm taking it from both ends on this one.
