I bought a $30 2X pistol scope on a whim the other day to slap onto my $150 S&W 22A. Today I picked up some $8/550 federal ammo and headed for a local range. I wasn't expecting much from the scope, it didn't have a name, just said China on the box. I am pleasently surprised. Once I got it zeroed in I was making nickle sized groups at 15 yrds. I was having a great deal of fun until I ran out of ammo. Those of you who don't have a 22 pistol don't know what your missing.

With the low recoil of the .22, that Chinese scope may never give you trouble.

This type of discount optics gives people a chance to try new things without wagering big bucks.

My brother and I used to use a 2x on a Ruger MkII to pick off shotgun hulls at 50 yards. It's cool.

I recall the look on my friend's face when I mowed down a row of bowling pins at 100 yards with a iron sighted Ruger 512 (three for range, seven for effect) You have to hit them just right, but over they will go.

I've never wanted to scope a handgun after my dad did it to a Blackhawk Hunter model... I just can't seem to get the sight picture right at all in the small (1 inch) tube that most pistol scope have. I looked at a lot of red-dot style pistol sights, and even looked at Tasco's Optima sight, but I'm not sure any of those are much good for handgun hunting.

Off the bench, and just for fun, a scoped handgun is a kick in the pants.

Note to yourself, spend an additional 8 bucks next time. :D

My dad's got pretty bad eyesight so for Christmas I got him a scope setup for his Buckmark.

That weekend, I mounted it for him and we went out in the back yard to sight it in. We spent the rest of the afternoon and more than a couple value paks of ammo with it. All the time I was thinking "I have got to get me one of these!" :)

I'd like to mount a red-dot on my 22/45 but don't want to spend a fortune doing it.

For the 22/45 I suggest an MGW (?) mount from On Target and a Tasco Red Dot. That is what I have and it is great fun. Costs was around $75 for both items. Sure makes for a lot of fun.

Eventually I'll put a red dot on the 5 inch barrel, I'm leaning toward the Bushnell Trophy, and get the 7 inch barrel and put a 4X scope on it. Heck, might even spring for the 4 inch barrel and leave the nasty old irons alone. But for now, this is pretty cool
