Hey ya'll, I'm new to the forum, and have owned about 55 assorted "assult weapons" (for lack of a better word) in the past 12 years. I have NEVER owned or even shot a Daewoo (K1?) I saw one at a gun shop for $899 and have fallen head over heals in love with the thing... LOL... It looks like a "battle rifle" feels like an AR and smells like an AK... It's the best of all world's, am I the only one who thinks this? should I purchase it? please tell me it's the biggest piece of junk to ever fall out of a Kim Chi bowl, so I don't spend my hard earned cash.... Clint

I also think the Daewoo rifles look pretty slick. Unfortunately, I have never gotten a chance to see one in real life, let alone actually handle one. Hopefully someone will be along shortly who has.

From what I've read the only major issue with them is the availability of parts. I have a DR200 with the ACE stock conversion. It's fairly light and handy and supposed to have good accuracy and reliability. Unfortunately that's about all I can say since I haven't actually taken it to the range yet (slacker) :)

I've fired another THR member's K2 and I liked it very much. As it has been said, parts/accessories are not widely available.

Sorry, AlaskaCajun, but Daewoos are great rifles. I had one for several years, and it worked flawlessly for me. Quite accurate, as well.

BTW, there are four version of the Daewoo out there: the K1/K1A1 (aka AR-110C), K2 (aka AR-100), DR200, and DR300.

The K1 is a preban short version, with a 16" barrel and collapsing wireframe stocks. It utilizes a close copy of the M16 direct gas impingement system to operate.

The K2 is the normal preban version, with an 18" barrel and side-folding stock. It uses an AK-style pistol.

The DR200 is a postban version of the K2, with an 18" barrel and cruddy thumbhole stock. Ace Ldt does make pistol grips and normal stocks for them, along with the requisite US parts to make them legal.

The DR300 is a DR200 in 7.62x39. It uses weird frankenmags that are awfully rare, and (from what I've seen and heard) none too reliable.

Yes Spaceman, it was at Gunrunner's, he's sellin' the shop so everything is being sold for pretty cheap...

BTW it was a K2 I wasn't sure of the model at the time of my original post...

After doing a lot of research, I've decided that I can't afford to buy another rifle!!! So hopefully if it's there on payday I can put it on Lay-A-Way... LOL :D Clint

I have a K2. It came with a hammer spring that was a bit too weak to reliably dent mil-spec primers, so I replaced it with a M16 hammer spring. Otherwise, the gun has never failed to fire, extract, eject......whatever. It is my favorite 5.56 SA. I would bet my life on this gun. I have broken absolutely nothing on it. Every aspect of this gun was well-thought out. I was able to locate parts on Ebay awhile back. But, to be fair, parts are not generally available. Too bad, b/c the Daewoo is everything that all the new whiz-bang piston-driven ARs wish they could be.

If I could somehow locate a legit NFA registered FA K2 I'd be in heaven.

I've had my eye on one for a long time, they seem like the perfect melding of the AK and AR families, and they were pretty cheap before the ban. Here's hoping someone starts importing them again and selling them with Ace's US parts (or other US parts as I understand most of the FCG is standard AR stuff...).

If they could get it in at/under $500 it would be a steal. I think I'd rather have it than a AR180B or cheap AR...

They are great guns and I served along side a lot of guys who were very fond of them.

The few times I got to play with them I was very impressed with them! If anything, I thought that they gave a foolish soldier too many things to mess with (which is great for an informed soldier).

I would have loved to bought one before clinton did away with them (it wasn't the AWB)

Great weapon. Only downside now is the few small parts that might be hard to replace.
