Lunch break on BIG constuction site in NYC is a slice of Americana that I only wish you all could witness at least once in your life.
We tell jokes, ridiculous stories and generally B.S. for the half hour while we rest our bones.....the crowd has changed a little as well as the work ethic (well my old man told me the same thing)
Since 9/11 the conversation is not as light hearted and often politics and war are the topic at hand.
Well......one of the old timers said today that this country is so screwed up these days that if we caught Bin Ladden and found out that he could pitch a baseball 100 MPH..... some rich owner would sign him up and promote him as a misunderstood guy and the idiotic public would forget about everything and he'd be pitching in the 2003 world series.
We all just looked at him and laughed (he's a good guy and he was obviously kidding) but after the laughter what he said made some of us think.........deep.
I don't know where this old guy came up with that ....but it kinda freaked me out:confused:

It'd be funny if the baseball season wasn't 130 games long -- most baseball games are pointless, you can still get to the pennant if you loose 1/2 the time. (football will be the same way in a few years.)

plus you'd see a sniper in the stands become a hero.

Well, If he did get signed I would hope he went to the NL so he could get pitched to! He would have to get real good at dodge ball. :D
It'd be funny if the baseball season wasn't 130 games long Uhm, I thought it was 162 games long.

No, but he would end up w/ his own TV "reality" show...

"Who Wants To Marry A Millionaire Terrorist?"....:scrutiny:

W/ what Muslims see of American celebrity, it's not hard to see why they think us so immoral & corrupt...:barf:

Sonny- don't take this the wrong way man, but it's stuff like what you wrote that makes me think there's hope for big cities like NYC even yet!

Dark humor, sonny. Times are adversity are full of it, and it helps everyone keep their equanimity.

Personally, I simply see professional sports as a group of entertainers ... willing to coerce money from me via taxation so they can build stadiums and arenas. If I wasn't given tickets from time to time, I would never go.

Who cares what the owners would do to get him. Did the movie industry snub Roman Polanski for his activities with a child? Every team would target him like a dove in front of Randy Johnson. It would be brutal. Vegas would be setting odds on which team would get the final stroke in. If he ever threw inside, the benches on both teams would be on him (teams don't always like their pitchers, they are "different").
