The State Police in Maryland testified that rifles are not used in crime in MD and that the sniper shootings were an anomoly that no law would effect because they brought a stolen gun into MD.
The MAHA/MMM folks submitted no written testimony
i had to leave before the AW bill was discussed today
they started at 1:30 and i had to leave at 5:30 and i dont think they were anywhere near starting the AW bill debates
i left written testimony

That is a major turnaround for the MD State Police! This gives me a glimmer of hope that MD is waking up to the fact that "common-sense" gun laws aren't.

I've also heard the Gov was telling the MSP to do a 180 on CCWs, but havent heard from any applicants if they got their permit or not.

Gun fucios, thanks for attending the hearing and the post. Anyone have any updates on the AW portion? Kahrn, the info on CCW is good but it will take some time to turn the anti-gun Md. State Police around. Will require a Shall Issue bill IMHO. Al in Md

Unfortunately the Governor is now talking about raising some taxes including property tax.
When Erlich ran for Governor, his campaign said that Maryland government is corrupt. That during the eight years of the Glenspending administration, spending went up 60% while incomes only went up about 40% or so.
So, I say before you raise one tax, how about cutting some of that spending, much of which has to be pure pork.
He can start with getting the lawmakers to repeal ballistic fingerprinting which has cost about $5 million so far, and has not lead to one conviction. There is both a House and Senate bill to do this.
Contact your representatives. The NRAILA.org website has that information.

Al: The Governor gets to appoint the Superintendant of the state police, Ehrlich was supposed to appoint someone that understood the concept of individual rights. The Superintendant can pretty much set the policy of the MSP at will, including their position on AWs and CCW issuing standards due to the structure of MD law, where much is left up to the determination by the MSP. I havent had time to stay up on the situation, I'm up to my neck in my classes right now, so I dont know whats going on beyond the basics and whats posted on this site.

Kahrn, I understand how the Gov. choses the MSP Super. I am glad that that Glendenning lap dog MSP Super. Mitchell is gone. I hope you are right on this about positive developments on CCW. If you get any info. on a major policy change I am sure you will post. OBTW I wish to thank you for your efforts on behalf of CCW reform in Md. Al in Md.
