Camping in the middle of no where. Not a camp ground or in an RV, but in a tent a long ways from any kind of civilization.

By weekly outdoors experience I don't mean going out in the middle of no where and camping, I mean just going outside and being with the outdoors, go poke a tree with a stick, that sort of thing.

6) How would you feel if cell phones, disk players, and MP3s were outlawed at your parks?
Glad- I don't go to listen to other people's music, and if I can hear it, then it's too loud. Their good time shouldn't affect me, and vice versa. If I can't hear it from my area, then let them play it (Ex- If I have to pass it to use a public restroom, then that is me in their area...)

1) What type of camping do you prefer: RV/Trailer Family campground Backcountry Yup! All three. Any time I/we get a chance.2) How often do you recreate outdoors:Summers and fall. But during hunting seasons and scouting times leading up to then sometimes it's more like weekly.
3) What activities do you participate in the outdoors:
Walking Camping Hiking Climbing Canoeing Kayaking
Other:_All of the above and I aim to kill things during hunting seasons! ____________________________________________________________
4) Do you bring any of the following on your outdoor activities?
Cell phone stays in the truck or trailer for work contact or emergencies. Disc player/stereo is mounted in the truck and one in the trailer. NO TV! GPS in my pocket. Other:____________________
5) How often do you see the above items interfere with your outdoor activities: When I was learning the GPS it interfered with my hunting. Not so now. I don't need artificial noise when I'm in the woods. Nature's sounds are music to my ears. So to answer your question- Never.
6) How would you feel if cell phones, disk players, and MP3s were outlawed at your parks? Sort of like uncle wanting to take my guns... Not a chance. But, any time there's an artificial noise, care needs to be taken to respect other peoples solitude. I'd be an angry pup if someone outlawed my electronic gadgits.
7) What type of environment did you grow up in during your youth and adolescence?
Rural Urban Suburb Urban as a child to 5yrs. Then rural until a teen. Urban until my late twenties. Rural since then.
8) Do you believe technology (cell phones, MP’s, other) belongs in the outdoors, why? They have their place when safety is a concern. Otherwise, many electronics gadgits interfere with what a person should be trying to take in. Nature. Sort of like putting DVD players in SUV's to let the little kids watch their favorite cartoon of non-reality.

It still ought to be the way it was when I was a kid sitting in the back seats of a Belair station wagon without seatbelts watching the countryside as we drove four hours to my uncle's farm! No DVD players for my kids. They get to navigate. And sometimes I make them chose a different route. On the MAP! No, not using ON-Star for directions.

Oops, Sorry. I sort of got away from your survey huh?

Rant over.

9) How would you define a great outdoor experience? Rifle in hand. Pistol in holster. Back pack loaded and all cinched up. A good buddy or my boys with me on a long trail to the alpines. Bear country. Marmotts. Billy Goats. Deer. Colorado Brown trout on the end of my fly line. Wild flowers and mountain Blueberries. Sunshine after a morning's dusting of snow. Waking to the sounds of ice falling off the glaciers to the west above. A Cougar calling in the middle of the night. Coyotes yipping ane running through the valley below. Any of the above wild game in my sites with my trigger finger itching to pull.

And sometimes a bit of four wheeling. Riding dirt bikes with my boys or just put-ing down a mountain road as quiet as the ole thumper to go.

Any of the above. All on the same day. Strewn out over a month.. Dudn't matter. Any one of the experiences is worthwhile.. Those that don't get out and enjoy mother nature is missing out on life.

7) What type of environment did you grow up in during your youth and adolescence?
Rural
8) Do you believe technology (cell phones, MP’s, other) belongs in the outdoors, why? Definite safety feature. I don't walk through the woods chatting on my cell phone or radio by any means, but they are kind of nice to have if you really need them so save your life!

9) How would you define a great outdoor experience? It would be hard to have a bad outdoor experience. I've had some pretty bad experiences outdoors but am glad that I went through them for they made me the more seasoned, careful, experienced outdoor person that I am, so looking back I still consider them great outdoor experiences. Just being outdoors , in the wild, away from the complexities and stress of everyday life, seeing the world as it was when it began, untouched, beautiful, magnificent, simple, peacful, truly inspiring, it really lets you know haw small we are!(I am not a tree hugger I promise). So in answer to your question, any day outdoors is a truly great experience!.

The truly aggrevating part about surveys like this is that even though these are all items that I and many like me could easily do without, and would if we had to, I choose to use them because it is my FREE RIGHT as a free American to do so, and even though it is a very small thing to get taken away, I don't think that we should let them. There is a lot of seemingly little things we let them take from us with little resistance, but you know- all of these little things add up, it is like 15 different things or toys that some people compile because they are only $10 or $20 per month- but they all add up quickly. The more little things we let people take away from us they are soon going to reach a point where they are going to think they can take without asking, because they will think " they haven't resisted on much yet we must know what's best", I don't buy it, I resist the little things so hopefully by doing so it will be easier to fight the big things(like keeping our guns!). So fight back it is your FREE RIGHT as an American and your duty to remain a FREE American.

4) Do you bring any of the following on your outdoor activities?
MP3 Cell phone Disc player GPS Radio Other:____________________

5) How often do you see the above items interfere with your outdoor activities:

Seldom. Good music greatly enhances a good outdoors trip.

6) How would you feel if cell phones, disk players, and MP3s were outlawed at your parks?
Angered Indifferent Glad

Homicidally angered.

7) What type of environment did you grow up in during your youth and adolescence?
Rural Urban Suburb

None of the above.

8) Do you believe technology (cell phones, MP’s, other) belongs in the outdoors, why?

Everything man-made is technology. Humans are not born wearing shoes. Shoes are a form of technology. Ditto non animal hide clothing. Granted, it'd be fun to go camping caveman style, but I'd likely get arrested.

Yes. Electronic technology has a place outdoors. Two way radios and cell phones can be helpful in an emergency situation. MP3 players can be very relaxing. Loud stereos obviously would be out of place.

9) How would you define a great outdoor experience?

Mild weather, good place to go swimming, and preferably someone rather nice to share the outdoors with.

A decent hike on the fjaells of Lapland during ruska time, i.e. just after the first frost in the fall as all leaves have turned all possible colors and the insects have perished. Or a summertime rowing trip on a lake, maybe fish some and cook them fresh on the shore. Sauna afterwards.
