Girl asks for a date - you'll never guess where!

So I am standing next to one of my buddies who works at a yuppyish? bar over in Tampa. We are cutting up and carrying on about the scenery, etc. A girl that I didn't notice, taps me on the left shoulder. She introduces herself and we conversate for a bit. After talking for a while she asks how "open-minded" I am. I reply, "Well that is kind of relative. Don't you think?" She goes on to say she thinks I am, from what she knows of me. And I was thinking......well you know what I was thinking. lol. She beats around the bush with a few more statements and then asks, "I know this is kind of different. But it will be a lot of fun! I'd love to treat you to a date to the shooting range."
Now you have to understand what kind of bar this conversation is occurring in. We are talking slacks, more plastic on/in girls, than on the cars in the parking lot, and in general people so full of themselves that I am often laughing so hard inside at their actions, that I am going to explode. Often I'll be laughing anyway. It is funny. I try to be nice though :D
So there I am grinning ear to ear and I tell her, "I'll tell you what, it certainly won't be the first time I have gone, but I would absolutely love to go." :D
Now this isn't the end of the story, or the weekend. So bear with me.
The very next night, a girl I have been talking to for the past couple weeks and I decide to hang out for a while. We met as we were leaving Channelside as the bars and clubs were closing down through a mutual acquaintance. However, we were both busy and didn't make a point to make a date or do anything until this past weekend.
After an hour or so, we were pretty comfortable with each other and were talking about all the things that you talk about on a first date. Then she pops the question, "What do you think about guns?"
I am thinking, "This one could go either way." Not that it would make a big difference to me in the long run, but the date was going really well up to that point. I had begun to really take to her and she is very cute. So I didn't exactly want to send one tearing through the hull and sinking this date like the Lusitania either.
Up to this point, she came off as being very conservative. So I tell her, "Well, I grew up around them and still shoot quite frequently." She replies, "Good. I had a hard time with my ex-roomate about getting a gun to keep in the apartment." Lol, she even knew exactly what gun she wants to get!
There I am - grinning ear to ear again. That was a more sincere grin though. I think I am going to be holding on to this one for a good while. ;)
I'll tell you what, it sure was a GREAT WEEKEND!

Way to go Rock! Sounds like you made a lucky discovery. Let us know how it turns out.
I guess in a way, it sort of hapened to me also. A lady replied to my "trolling for women" ad on the yahoo personals. I had mentioned about wanting someone that would join me in cowboy and idpa shooting, that I hunt, and build cabins and plan to live in the semi-bush in Alaska. She knew up front what I was interested in. She's even good looking, and can cook! Now, the part about her being in Anchorage, and I'm in Wyoming,......this flying thing can get expensive. Didn't make it out shooting when she was here, we'll have to see how she does next time. Said she can cook anything I kill. She brought moose steaks when she came.

"you buy me drink? I love you long time. american man big handsome. "

Suprisingly, every once in a while I'll get a girl that actually doesn't do that.
Tip: Get to know and befriend the bouncers. Then you don't really have to worry about it...not that it will keep the girls from running away. ;)

I am in the middle of a relationship right now that isn't that good, but close...she feels that the best home defense system is audible. Particulary the sound of a 12 gauge Winchester 1200 Defender being racked into position with some good love.
When she told me these words, I kinda went weak in my knee's...
She doesn't like deer hunting, but doesn't mind the hunting of pig...so I still have to work on her about the hunting thing, but jeez...I would have loved to have met her several years before. :) lol

Be careful it may be a trap just to get you wrapped around her little finger. My wife use to go shooting with me before we were married now it is like pulling teeth to get her to go to the range with me. She lost most of the interest in shooting when she got that ring.
I must say though my wife never says a word about me buying guns or parts so she is not all that bad. Not to mention lets me go hunt or shoot whenever I want.

You are doing better than most of the rest of us. Most of us have to grow our own. The young lady I married didn't really care for guns and shooting when we met. I gradually got her interested. We tried several different forms and now she is a confirmed cowboy shooter, even goes to the range by herself to practice.

My wife recently surprised me... She's shot at a range with friends and me, but never wanted a gun for herself, still isn't sure, but we did our taxes this year and got a decent return. She told me she wanted to get something for the house with it, then said, 'And why don't you get that Walther P99 you want?" I balked at spending the money right now, and she actually talked me into it, telling me I should think of it as getting something to defend her with.
On top of that, I'm taking my CCW class this weekend, and she's joining me...
So with this girl, or girls, if there's more than one, just make sure they not some crazed gun totin' mama, and enjoy a shared hobby, and, more importantly, a shared viewpoint!

My girlfriend currently wants me to take her shooting. We've been together for only a short while so I'm still trying to get her comfortable about firearms. She doesn't like "weapons", but she's open to try out target shooting.
I'm starting to notice that "going to the range" is becoming more and more frequent. I'm hearing more of how so and so female friend went shooting the past weekend. I shiz you not! And this is even in Southern California!

Sorry for the confusion. Two different girls. What is the probability of that happening?!
The first was completely random. The second, I had been talking to for a couple of weeks before we met on Saturday night. She has a very conservative background. Her father hunts quite frequently. She said that she didn't eat hamburger meat until she was in her late teens! Some of her friends picked up some hamburger for spaghetti. Since she had been used to venison her whole life (which is very lean comparitively) she thought there was something wrong with it, due to all the grease. That was interesting.
She also told me that she used to shoot competitively with her brother when they were younger. They shot .22's, but I can't say that I have fired even a single round in formal competition.
The second girl and I, went out again on Sunday night to grab dinner. She asked me what I wanted to do next weekend. Of course, I said, "Let's go to the range." :D On Friday, she wants to go to a Country-Western bar to dance. I don't know about the dancing, but I'll have a couple of beers!
Ak-47me - It is the same area. That bar is a bit silly. One of those novelty things. There is one in Ft. Lauderdale too. It is called "Howl at the Moon". A lot of bachelorette parties go up there.

"I choose to take it as a sign that the culture is changing for the better."
Happy Bob
I don't know about the admiration or hatred. I'd say it was more like the "right place, right time".
But I sure do agree with it being a "sign of the culture."
There seems to be a distinct correlation between girls being pro-gun, or at least accepting of gun culture, and shooting .22's competitively in their youth.
While that seems like a "no-brainer", I don't see or hear about them that much. Maybe it is that they are out there and just don't get that much talk time? I don't know of any high schools around here that have teams, nor was I aware of any up in Western Kentucky.
I would think that if we promoted that part of the sport more effectively, by popularizing it and making it a strong part of our culture, we would detract much more significantly from the gun control cause in the years to come. I would think it would do much, much more for the 2nd Amendment cause in general, than all the Eddie Eagle campaigns combined. Not that the Eagle campaign doesn't have a very important purpose to serve in its own right.

Update...
I figured I would let you guys know the latest on the "second" girl (we'll call her Jane) since it relates to what we talk about here at highroad.
Friday we met at the "Roundup" which is a country-western bar (which only played one Hank Jr. song the whole night -BTW). It would probably be more appropriate to call it a pop-country-western bar. They played country for the most part, but threw in some others including a techno bit. That was pretty unexpected. Anyway she was there with a bunch of her friends - guys and girls. I considered it a part of the informal "screening" process, but it was a good time. Apparantly I passed, as I was asked if I would like to go to a get-together on Saturday. Of course I went.
So last night (Saturday) we went over to her friends house. About a third of the way into it, I walked back into the living room after messing with a four-wheeler for a bit that was having ignition problems out in the garage. Jane is sitting on the couch with her girlfriend discussing the gun shows that are being held this weekend and the next. Then they get into talking about concealed carry classes and how it has been a few months since they have been to the range. Of course, I am smiling the whole time.
Later on she was laughing to herself. After asking for an explanation she remarked how it was really funny that she goes to country western bars all the time, but met me over at Channelside. I have to admit it is a bit ironic. But I will certainly take it with no complaints! She is a great girl- so far!
It has been said, but I'll say it again - They are out there! You just got to find them! I was beginning to wonder though!

I wish I could say that it happens all the time! [shrugs] It is definitely the exception to the rule. Most of the time I have the same experience you do.
A girl that I was dating down in Sarasota almost blew a gasket when she saw that I was carrying a few weeks after we started dating. After she gave me the whole, "They scare me/Don't come into my house with one/What do you need that for," routine - I told her if she didn't like it she could take a hike, but I wasn't going to stop carrying or compromise my interest in shooting for anyone or anything.
Now that is not to say that I am some big hardarse about everything. Most of the time I take a much more tactful position and work them over to my side of thinking with debate. Since I knew this wasn't logically founded, I decided to give her both barrels and let her know that it wasn't up for discussion.
She got the point, but it was a huge red flag. Most people here would agree that being afraid of an inanimate object doesn't jibe well with logic. So it didn't surprise me to see that one go down in flames a short while thereafter.
Maybe sometime we could hangout? I wonder how many people on THR are in the area.
Happybob -Not yet. I probably will mention it this weekend though :D I was wondering what she would think about this thread. She is really cool about everything though.
Last night, her guy friends were talking about going to a strip club. Later on, when we were driving home, she asked me if I wanted to go. Now don't get me wrong, I like to look at really hot girls as much as the next guy. But I would much rather go home with mine ;) In so many words, I told her that it wasn't a big deal and I was getting tired anyway. Then she says, "Cause I would have given you some money so that you could've gotten a lapdance."
That was really funny. I don't know how sincere she was about it. She may just have been saying it tongue in cheek. But she sounded pretty serious. lol

myrockfight,
It must be something about those SRQ girls. When I go up to Knights Shooting Sports, I almost always she a hot chick shooting (or being taught to shoot). Maybe it's just that range, that's the only range I've been to in the Tampa/St Pete/Clearwater area.
I've been in the same position with chicks and guns. Most everytime I've had one freak out on me, she's turned out to be an emotional head case anyways. They've almost all had issues... no subscriptions, lifetime subscriptions. You know what I mean.
Drop me a line. Maybe we could get in some range time or something.

way funny thread, but cool ???? does happen.
i went out with this broad on a blind date, and she was hot enuf, so we walk down the bike and hike to a bench that has a beautiful view of a full moon, and before ya know it, i'm standing, and she's sitting, and she reaches up and grabs my peice (no, the gun, she had the other peice somewhere else) and stops what she's doing to say it makes her hot to be with a dangerous guy. i don't have the heart to pop her balloon, because i figure then maybe she wouldn't pop mine. she thinks i'm some kinda secret agent, or something. she's pretty cool, but i'm in china again, so all i hear is, "you very good. want massagi? meesa give you very good massagi. you want two meesa? special deal!"
truth is, i'd pay a million bucks to meet a woman i liked, that liked my hobby, had a job, and was interested in a hack like me (and was built like a certain 20 year old chinese girl whose lifestyle i'm funding - well, maybe that's asking for a lot).
i'd pay half a million just to find one i liked.

Myrockfight, I'm in total agreeance with you: My preference to carry and be a gun owner IS NOT open for debate. They take it, or not the the doorknob hit them in the a$$ on their way out!
I can honestly say that most of the women I've dated aren't anti-gun. Most of them just have either never been around them, never shot them, or never thought to get a CCW permit and carry. My one ex-girlfriend however, beat me to it. She got her CHL and a 9mm S&W well before me. (She's been around them all her life, shooting almost every gun in her dad's collection, hunting....and I"ll be damned if she isn't a heck of a shot! :D )
I was engaged to one woman who was TRULY anti-gun, who told me I bring a gun into the home and she would pack her stuff and leave. So, after a year of living together, fighting constantly, and me calling an end to the engagement and the relationship, I bought a gun. Now I'm on two. Guess I know for sure SHE won't be trying to come back (LOL).
They're out there. I find if you find a woman who's on the same page as you on an intimate, intellectual, and emotional level, then they're probably at least willing to accept your right to carry and be involved in shooting sports.
