I just bought a new Colt 1911 and while shooting it, the rear sight started drifting over. I could push it out with my fingers. I am going to put tritium sights on it so I am not overly concerned, unless the dovetail for the sight is oversized. The base of the rear sight is .322". Is the sight undersized most likely or the dovetail oversized. Thanks.

I thought that the pony guns were the only true 1911 and that all of their quality issues (this being a very common one) were behind them.

The solution is to stipple the underside of the sight. The edges of each stipple spot is raised and will cause the sight to fit snugly in the dovetail.

My first pre-agreement Smith & Wesson model 41's rear sight kept falling out, and when I tightened the set screw, it bent the rib downward so it abraded the top of the slide.

The folks who make Lock Tight make a thick black glue. A very little bit of it secured the rear sight, and has proved impervious to cleaning solvents for the past five years or so.
