"... hope that word is ok"

No, actually it's not ok.

I recommend you buy a good reloading manual -- it's too easy for someone on the net to type "7.4 grains," when they mean "4.7 grains."

You can also get data on-line from powder and other component manufacturers. I recommend Hodgdon, http://www.hodgdon.com/

You meant "slabsides", right? :uhoh:

It kind of all depends on what you get. You can read through alot of threads in forums to get opinions about that (like I did), but start with one pound of what ever you choose, and can find abundant load data for, would be my advice.

There are lots of places on the net, first being the powder makers themselves. I recently tried handloads.com and there is MD Smith's, and reloadammo.com also.

That being said, check those sources to verify the ranges I have found (in various places) for these two of my favorite powders:
Bullseye 4.0-6.5 gr.
Unique 4.8-8.0 gr.

And I reccomend the lighter loads too, they are more accurate, as I understand it. I would NOT USE the higher end of these ranges at all! :scrutiny: . And I caution you to start low and work up. But the most important thing you can do is check other sources. Do not use this info, without doing your own research and choosing the best data to use for your specific application.
Stay cool bruddah

Sorry Automac, but I am a great believer of W-231 for 45 Slabside? (That's not what I saw written there. 'Course I have a dirty mind). And I agree with Vern Humphrey on the possible type-os. But with that said....Bushido...Try 6.2 to 6.8 (Winchester Loading Manual year 2000.[These are HOT]) with your 185 grain JHP and a CCI-300 or WLP primer. Or 4.4 to 6.1 (Lyman Loading Manual #48). I suggest the Lyman Manual to start with and work up. W-231 is a fast powder with a good whollup at the end. In my ???? Slabside they are even quite accurate. Remember the Winchester Manual is on the HOT side. So BE CAREFUL!!! At 5.0 grains of W-231 I am running around 740 fps and at 6.7 grains of W-231 I am running around 990 fps. These loads are for the 185 grain Remington JHP.

But as Vern Humphrey said...Get a manual and verify my loadings. I could be wrong (I doubt it, but you never know). :what:

I did find a lot of praise for 231 in my readings, including your own Bushmaster.

I would sure like to try that if I could get my hands on it. Its a ball powder too, I think, which I want to work with.

Is it good for 9mm, 38 Super, 40 S&W, and 45acp too? I havent checked the tables because my only two suppliers on the island (think hazmat) dont have any. Maybe I should special order some. ;)
