Has anyone done one of these. What I have read seems to indicate that the barrel just drops right in. Do you need new mags or what? Any info would be appreciated.

Drop-in.
Use the same mags.
Most of the time they're reliable.

Go to Makarov.com (http://www.makarov.com) for some useful information about the potential pitfalls of such a conversion. In a nutshell, they're not always that easy.

I have one that came with two barrels. Field strip, put back together with the other barrel. Same mag, mine runs fine with either cartridge.

Why bother though. The only thing the 52 has going for it is the cartridge and arguably the lockup (which is really only needed for that cartridge). Otherwise the thing is a pretty miserable gun.

I guess I am curious what makes it "Miserable"?
