The thread about the appeal of the BHP made me wonder why the Browning BDM didn't make it. Anybody know?

Not much market share for a big, expensive, 10 shot 9mm w/no aftermarket goodies.

They sure sold like wildfire though when the price tumbled...

Hal nailed it...it was released right around the time of the HI Cap neutering...in the mid 90's. No one wanted a "new improved Hi Power" from browning that wasnt a Hi Cap...bummer its one of the nicer guns Ive shot...
You wont find a thinner grip on a dual stack 9mm.....
Shoot well

I really believe that this gun would have made it but for one VERY poor decision on Browning's part.

The damned thing should have been designed to work with standard Hi Power magazines, NOT a special magazine unique only to it.

I've read ( maybe on the firing line) that the BDM also problems after it was adopted by the Finnish police or military.

At one time these guns were about $300. NIB at close out. I had thought about a purchase but several owners told me they were not very accurate. I am sure there are exceptions.

It's a cool-looking gun, very slim, with an amzingly thin grip for a doublestack nine. Local shop has one with a 15-rounder for $370...if it had more than one mag, I'd be tempted. I've always liked the design, although I hear that durability is spotty.

Ron, I know that the secret service was due to buy them and (IIRC) backed out. Friend of mine here test shot a bunch of them (worked for FN) and reported that while they were reliable, there were some accuracy issues - POI/POA off, poor grouping.

I had one.

Cool concept, crippled by: Iffy durability reports; proprietary mags a bad thing for a gun that debuted 15 minutes before the AW Ban of '94; and lastly, it was a late showing at the WonderNine party, with a steep Browning price tag to boot (at the time of its release, MSRP was, IIRC, about 1.3 times that of a Glock).
