Add the quote feature back to THR? -- vote yes or no!

So, what do you think? What is your OPINION?

Quote feature, yes or no?

I only see 1 drawback -- It seems that a minority of people can't figure out that if they quote a post they should delete all the extraneous parts. In other words don't quote the whole friggn' thing just to respond to 1 sentence of it

I see many positive things about the quote feature. It allows more of a 'true discourse' to take place. One where it is easier to enter into a discussion with particular people and actually keep track of who said what.

Some people might offer a critizism aloung these lines....
Most of what I saw from quotes on TFL was to ram the poster's words back down his throat.

I'd respond aloung these lines...
Personally, I try very hard to only say what I actually mean.

Perhaps some people have a problem saying things they later wish to retract? If that's the case, they ought to dwell longer upon what it is they ACTUALLY want to say AND how they REALLY wish to express it.

Quote feature, yes or no?
It's handy, but can tend to be abused by those who will quote an entire post just to append one line.

Anyone with half a brain can figure out how to cut and paste using (square bracket)quote(square bracket).

Short answer: Don't make no nevermind ta me.

adding a "feature" to a PHP based web forum requires resources...

This question has been answered several times. Asking it repeatedly will not change the answer.

The quote feature is awkward and gets abused. THR DOES have a "quote feature" in that you have a button that will insert the vB code for quotations for you. However, it requires you to select the text you'd like to quote yourself. This keeps goobers (not that we have any here, mind you) from quoting Joe Bob's entire post seven times over the course of a thread. I don't know if you've seen forums like that, but the sheer irritation value cannot be overstated.

Midnight is correct in that this is not gun related and it will be closed. It is being closed and not moved, which would be the normal course of action, only because you have already started a thread on the same subject. I moved your original to the Technical Support forum because it certainly appeared to be a question for the staff: "Why no "quote" feature at THR?" I didn't realize you were going for a philosophical discussion on the mechanics of quoting other members.

I'm sorry you are so enamored of the "reply with quote" feature and feel it needs a member-wide vote to attempt to restore it here. I'm sorry only because you will be disappointed, no doubt, when I say that it won't be restored any time soon no matter what the outcome of any poll would suggest. It truly was abused when it was enabled at TFL and here as well. It is a very simple matter to quote someone without needing that particular feature. By having the user take the few extra steps to quote, the actual contents of the quotes are a much higher grade than if the user took the easy way out and quoted an entire post only to say a few lines in response (the most common form of the abuse I mentioned).
