Mornin Ya'll.

The AR-15.com folks sent me over here when I asked a question over in the pistol forum. I might be in the position to get a nice 1911 here in the next few months, and since I'm a mechanic by trade, and I have a love for tearing things apart and putting them together, I'm thinking about building my own 1911 from the frame up. One of the guys I shoot with told me I'm nuts and just get a kimber custom II and be done with it. It basically looks like I'm not going to save any money in the long run with it, especially using a Wilson frame and slide, and high end competition internals. My question is can anyone point me in the right direction on the fitting of all the parts that are required? I read the primer on the frame and slide fit, and I think I'll just pay wilson to pre fit the slide and the frame. I think I can handle pretty much everything else with my hand tools, and do a pretty decent job with out WECSOGing it. I'm already planning on the kit that Brownell's sells for hammer and sear engagment. What other tools would I require? Otherwords what do I need to finish the job?

Welcome over here DeltaAir423,
Go to the top of the page and start reading all the stickied info on building 1911's.
That should keep you busy for a while,as there is more info (in one place) there than just about anywhere else other than one of Kuhnausens books,(and a lot easier to digest than his books).
And the thread on hammer and sear angles is great to.

I've got some of the tools if you want to come down and use them, sear jig, hammer hook file, frame rail file, etc.
I'm working on a 1911 now,but you know how slow I am!

Robert.

Hey thanks for the welcome gamachinist. I finally got the chance to drag my SAR-1 to the range a couple of weeks ago and got it sighted in. It's shooting pretty straight, but I haven't tried anything over 100 yards with it yet. Now I just need to find the slant brake that I bought for it, thread the barrel and install it.
