Philosophical handgun question

Which would you carry under the following criteria:
A pistol with only two .45 ACP rounds in it,
A pistol with only four 9mm rounds in it,
or a pistol with 10 .22lr rounds in it.
For the sake of arguement, all pistols are compact models, and let's assume that all the 10 rounds of 22lr will reliably ignite, and all the pistols weigh the same amount.
thanks,
john l

Oh yes, and why would you choose what you choose?

i read on teh interweb that a .45 round is so powerful it will pull your brains out of your ears as it passes by, so i'd go with the .45
More seriously, I'd use the 9mm. That would allow for a double-tap to the body, a follow up to the head if necessary, with a one-round margin of error. I've heard too many stories of .22 rounds being shrugged off (and know a guy who was shot 6 times in the head with a .22 from 12 inches away with no permanent damage but the scars along his scalp) for me to put my faith in it as a stopper*. .45 would be preferable as a caliber, of course, but it leaves no margin for error on my part, and doesn't give me the Mozambique option.
*Yes, I know about the ice pick comparison, but if I need a gun, I need someone down now, not in ten minutes after they've bled out through their various perforations.

.22lr.
my grampa takes out deer with 22mag's from say, 100 feet, so if it's LR and about 5 feet, i think it'll do. with good practice, i could get one in the eye/nose/mouth/ear which would go to the brain. oh yea, no hollow point, round nose for this, since it's a small round. the extra rounds are good for a possible second or third bad guy.
or i could sell the .22 for $200 and buy a Makarov.

I'd take the .22. Why? Because you can never ever have too much of a good thing. And ammo is a very good thing. :D

I'd take the one I shot most accurately.

Hm, that's a tough one. I guess there are some real world analogs, though. The .45 would be kinna like those .45 LC double barreled derringers, and the 9mm would be kinda like a 1862 Colt Navy Police (5 chambers, but you need to keep the hammer down on an empty one).
I guess I'd get the 9mm. 4 shots ain't much, but it's better than 2. I don't suppose I could pick a 6 or 8 shot .32 or .380 instead?

It all depends on the circumstances and surroundings you find yourself in. If the choice is to be used only for self defense, I would choose the 4 rounds of 9mm. 9mm is a good self defense caliber and as we all know, "the more the merrier".
If, on the other hand, the choice would be used for gathering food on a deserted island, etc., I would choose the .22.
In no instance would I make an advanced choice for only 2 rounds of anything.

Probably 9mm. I guess it's provides the best balance between capacity and stopping power in the given choices.

Don't laugh -- that's obviously what happened to the guy who posted that. :p

4 rounds of 9mm. Modern 9mm is as powerful as 45 ACP :D
That eliminates the need for the 45.
The 22 LR will not have the stopping power to be the ultimate selfdefense round for the modern internet commando/ninja.

Ok, one shot with my 10mm Delta Elite. Loaded with doubletap 135 grain gold dot. Sorry, I know it wasn't a choice, but its mine.

I'd go with the 4 rounds of 9mm. All pistol rounds are a compromise and the 9mm is available with adiquate ammunition and gives more options and makes it possible to engauge multiple targets, even if it's still a very small number. Ammo of choice would be some flavor of 124 gr or heavier +P hollowpoints for reliable penetration.

9mm for the decent performance with modern HP ammo and for the 4 round capacity...

Mal pegged that. SD = 9mm.
General use for putting some critter food on campfire (and at least ''something'' for defence) - then the .22.
