Agreed - Clark Custom Guns (http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/) does an absolutely outstanding action job. I've had them on all my S&W 66's and 686's, as well as on my Ruger revolvers. They do two levels: Service and Target. The Service action job is the one for ordinary use, and for defence, IDPA, etc. The Target action job concentrates more on the lightest possible trigger pull, especially SA, and can lighten it so much that ignition is problematic with a heavy primer - but it's intended for a very specific purpose, and that liability is acceptable there, as one simply reloads with lighter primers. I must have had a dozen guns through Clarks, and my friends the same number again (or even more). Outstanding workmanship.

Another option that's been recommended by some in the know is to get the Jerry Miculek video on S&W trigger jobs, available at Brownells; and get springs from Wolfe, and learn to do it yourself. This is the option I'm pursuing, though I'm waiting for the video to come (got the springs), and so can't offer a review yet.

Cylinder & Slide (http://www.cylinder-slide.com) does good work. The firm is expensive, and there's a waiting list, but the quality is top notch.

JD;
I have a 686 that was done by Jim's Custom Guns of Butte MT.
If this is reasonably close to you, I'd certainly recommend that you go see him. The nice thing is that you can sit down & discuss what you want done & expect the results to be. He will give you his opinions & insights on your objectives, the costs & practicalities of same. 900F

Here's another one:

For revolver action jobs, Teddy Jacobson is hard to beat. However, he does most of his work for law enforcement and gives them preference but he's worth the wait.

Smith & Wesson did the action job on my 686 and the results are awesome. Based on my results, I can recommend Smith & Wesson to you! My 686 is a real fun gun to take to the range---nice, nice trigger!!
