Car theft victim solves crime himself

ROSEBURG: A man whose 1990 Toyota Camry was stolen Monday in Roseburg was at the post office Tuesday when he saw another man drive up in his car.

The victim and a co-worker accosted the suspected car thief, 38-year-old William Jordan, a local transient, and held him at gunpoint until police arrived around 3:30 p.m., according to a Roseburg Police Department spokesman.

The victim reportedly had left his keys in the car at his place of employment and Jordan saw his opportunity and took it.

Jordan made the news a few weeks ago when he stole a Pepsi delivery van from the downtown Safeway parking lot. He was released on that charge the day after his arrest, pending a review by the District Attorney's office, according to the police spokesman.

Jordan was taken to the Douglas County Jail again Tuesday, and he was scheduled to be arraigned on the new vehicle theft charge this afternoon.

Suppose he's been busted loose on the new charge yet?

Interested to know, how the ''gunpoint'' deal played out. Seems in many cases this just brings a pile of bricks on the good guy!

Just what I was thinking. He'd better be prepared when the crook's lawyer asks him, "So, you figured your car was more important than my client's life?"

Hope it goes well for him, but I wouldn't have done that.

but I wouldn't have done that Why not? Place the guy under citizen's arrest, tell him to stay put (not at gunpoint--yet), and if he stays, fine; if he runs, give a good description to the lawdogs when they get there. If he threatens, then take appropriate action.

Because my truck costs less than even a fairly cheap lawyer! ;)

That's exactly what I would have done, and dealt with the legal proceedings later. Nothing :fire: me more than a thief.

Dangerous ground. Hope things turn out well for him.

Memo to Oregon District Attorney: may want to get around to filing a Petition for Bond Revocation on that first Auto Theft. :scrutiny:
