BFR revolvers in 480

Posting for a friend, he wants to know bit more about Magnum Research BFR 480 Ruger/.475 Linebaugh:

- Is this revolver available in Bisley configuration as a custom proposal from the factory?
- Would they chamber it for 480 Ruger ONLY, he doesn’t want .475 Linebaugh chamber?
- How it compares in quality and finish to Ruger SA stainless revolvers?
- Any other comment?

I bought the 7.5" version then had the barrel shortened to a true 6". Magnum Research measures the barrel length from muzzle to frame not force cone. Don't worry about the 480/475 part its like the 38/357 or 44special/44mag. it just gives you more choices. As far as fit and finish, mine is flawless and every part is stainless steel no plastic or aluminum. The screws are plated hex head and hardened. Overall quality its better than Ruger and close to Freedom Arms quality. One other extra feature is that with the load gate open you can spin the cylinder either way. Besides custom barrel lengths what you see is what you get.

Indeed - free wheel cyl - I like that! It's a bonus.

I am enamored with my 45-70, it is to me about the ideal - but then I love this old, old cartridge! I must confess - on mine I measured (as usual) from forcing cone, so my own barrel length reflects that!! It is I guess in Magnum Research terms a mere 7 1/2'! But - me - I love long tubes!

10shooter, what is the accuracy you are getting from BFR (480/475 if I understood your response)? Thanks.

On accuracy, its better than I am thats for sure. I'm using the 412 gr. Hunters Supply hard cast and Hornady .475 cases. When loaded to around 850fps I'm doing some of my best shooting ever. At 1000 to 1100fps it will take any game you pick and drill clean through while still being very controllable. With 26.0gr of H110 I'm getting an average speed of 1345fps but the recoil is a bit more than I've mastered. On the side note I forgot to mention that the barrel to cylinder gap is only 0.0025" a bit better than any of my Rugers.
