The wait is over! Got my license, got my guns (NYC)

After waiting nine months and jumping through every hoop they threw at me, I finally got my NYC Premise License. It allows me to possess the listed guns at the address on the license, and allows me to transport the guns, in a locked container, to an authorized location (ie the range.)

I was lucky. They gave me a release for all four of my handguns. I was afraid I might have to wait a month or more to get each one. However, I did get a new gun while I was waiting for the license so I have to go jump through more hoops for that one. That means getting approval, a release, license amended, inspected....it's ridiculous!

Well, at least I'm back on the firing line!

For the cul-cha!! :D

Born and raised in NYC. Spent a couple years in Idaho and couldn't take it. I'm a New Yorker through-n-through. But while in Idaho I got into shooting. That's pretty much the whole story!

I guess you gotta be born there. I tried living in DC for most of a decade and just couldn't stand it! From what I hear DC is a sleepy southern berg compared to NYC! ack!

graystar,

Congrats! How much $ did it cost for the multiple guns, and how long/how much $ will it cost for renewal?

I didn't pay anything to the licensing authority for the guns. All the guns were added on as part of the initial licensing. I do not think there is a fee to add another gun to your license....but you do have to go through their ridiculous process of obtaining purchase orders and such.

The initial cost of getting the license was 330 bucks. $255 is the licensing fee and another $75 for fingerprint processing. After that, renewals are $255 every three years.

Well GS, it's good to know that 4 or 5 more guns are duly registered with the army of little grey men in NYC, and therefore are NOW not a threat or danger to any of the residents. And all this safety and protection for only twenty-three cents a day! No wonder they elected HC!

Bully for you! It's sad you had to go through all that foolishness, but at least you'll be less unsafe.

Yes, and in the future you may well become "a person of interest" to the authorities in the case they are investigating a notorious shooting/s.

Apparently, that is what happened during the "Son of Sam" investigation in NYC.

Keep the phone number of a good lawyer handly.

Happened to a lot of people recently in the D.C. sniper investigation in Maryland.

I can understand having a place in your very bones. I have eastern Georgia and western South Carolina in mine. But, man, I feel for you! You're in a police state compared to Georgia or South Carolina.

I've got a registered Uzi. I didn't have to go through that for it.

I've been exposed to a bit of cul-cha here and there. It's not worth that.

Byron's right. GA is nowhere near as bad as NY. Good for you!
