Cheek slap - too much drop at comb/heel?

I just bought a new Benelli M1S90 in 20 guage. I have the same one in 12 guage.

The new one beats up my cheek! It has the same length of pull. I noticed it had shims in it that drops the heel to 64mm. This is the maximum drop. Would I do better to raise it to 54mm? This would be the minimum drop.

I always shoot trapguns. Not near as much drop. I started out with em as a kid and never switched. I have tried field stocks and never liked em. I think it makes a difference but probably just what I am used to.

You should raise it up to help with cheek slap, but it will also raise your point of impact, or give you more ramp on the barrel that you can see. Most of my guns shoot high to begin with, you just have to know where they pattern to compensate. If you shoot targets or birds, you have to 'float' them a bit, how musch depends on how you shoot.

I was comparing the recoil pad on this gun to my other Benelli M1S90 (12 guage). The new one is a complete joke! It is soft and sponge like. I'll bet what is happening is the gun is moving under recoil because the pad allows it to. Then, my face gets pounded.

Go to minimum drop and see if that fixes the prob. If not, add a little to the LOP with cardboard, etc, and see how things go. POI will change, like Kudu said.

Also, make sure you're not shooting max loads.

I went to the minimum drop. It feels better. I will try it this weekend.

Reducing the drop worked. No cheek slap. (I figured I would post the result in case someone needs this in the future).
