Ok, So I went to a gun range in PA today. I shot there before last week and it was cheap and had a good atmosphere. However, they wouldnt let me shoot "body" targets unless i was an LEO because it promotes a bad image for their establishment. I can kinda sympathize there. Then he went on to say about how people were bringing in Osama Bin Laden targets and he said it was wrong because you dont need that much hate in your system. I was thinking, you cannot have enough hate for Bin Laden! So anyway, I tried to go shooting today but he said I had to be 21. Well Im 20, and I went last week. He said someone made a mistake, but for insurance purposes I need a parent. Well, I didnt expect all this from a PA gun range. In NJ, one of the worst states for guns, my gun range allows anyone 18+ to shoot. You can bring your own targets of bin laden, or LEO qualifiying person targets. However, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that the PA gun range enacted those rules on their own. THat they werent state regulations and they were just trying to be safe and have a good image. It still steamed me up though. :fire: Then the guys at the gun shop were talking about how paintball is unethical and wrong because kids shouldnt point guns at each other. That is the same argument my mother gave me when I was 12 and wanted to start playing paintball. It was just strange to me to see all this in a gun shop/range in good ole PA. But hey, maybe there was some history behind this behavior, maybe the anti-gunners where trying to shut that place down for awhile and hes just holding his own. I guess Ill never know.

Its the ranges policy, not a PA policy.

I took my son to a private range here in PA to shoot. We never go to private ranges, rather we use the public ranges. However a group of us from SF went their to shoot together. My son was only 18 at the time. He took a very basic safety course and was good to go.

The red counties of PA have posted the tri-county Philadelphia area for sale for $1 , first place we offered it to was Jersey , they declined. Still waiting to hear a counter offer from MD. Were throwing in Rendell as boot, Specter our resident RINO is included for the right deal.

will sell you a human sized target but you cant bring your own.
they used to sell the osama targets too, minors must be with an adult.
LEO's are allowed to shoot from concealment and open carry but regular folks cant...
But they let me once in awhile :) it depends on how well they know you and how well you shoot.

am sure it is a range thing. caseydog and I are both real lucky - we shoot at several ranges where WE decide what we will shoot and shoot at - sensibly of course. We are fortunate - but the odd hard drive and cell phone are less so!!! :p :D

What was the range name? I shoot at Ready Aim Fire in Bristol. They are tough on safety but pretty laid back on all else. They let you shoot most any target. They have a rule against offensive targets but I'm not sure what that means because they sell a target of a large white BG or a Black BG with a mac-10.

My twelve year old shoots with me, under my supervision and responsibility. They let me rent weapons for him to shoot also.

They also have one of the best ventilation systems I've seen in an indoor range.

Sorry, I left out the first line that made the rest of that babble make sense ....

I presume you were shooting within commute distance of Philly ?

Target World is the name. Ironic considering your experience. New Britain is in upper Bucks County, home of some of the most liberal republicans you'll ever find. Bristol is in the lower part of the county where all us trashy folks live. Next time come to Ready Aim Fire. It's probably closer to you and you'll have a good time.

The NRA range where I shoot in NJ does not allow targets of identifiable people, meaning no pictures of a specific person. I assume silhouettes are fine.

Yeah, the range I use for outdoor shooting in NJ doesn't allow identifyable people as targets. I have used Q targets and whatnot without issue. I think the illustrated bad-guy targets are OK, but the photo bad-guy targets are verbotten.

Each range will make its own rules - sometimes they make sense, sometimes they don't.
