Safety Question

I just traded for a S&W Model 65-5 with a 3" bbl.
My questions is this. Is this gun safe to carry hammer down on a loaded chamber? I only ask because I have never owned one with the hammer mounted firing pin.
Does this has the same type of trigger safety that a frame mounte pin would, where the pin cannot strike unless the trigger is pulled?
Thanks

Yes, it's safe. If you get tired of that short barrel, I'll be glad to trade you a 4 inch M65... :D
The 3 inch K frames are the berries for lots of us.

Al is right. Your S&W has an internal, mechanical hammer block safety. It works by itself. Unlike some pistols that have manual safeties that are user-operated.

Hey al...
Not a chance in H%LL. This baby aint getting out of my sight.
This is now officially my favorite gun. I got it this morning and promptly took it to the range and ran about 125 through it. It handled everything form my hot "sunday" loads to my .38spcl wadcutters.
Now while I am not the greatest shooter in the world, I have to say I was pretty proud of myself today.
I was puttting most of my shots in the center of mass of a silhouette and about 8 out of 10 in the head when aiming for it.
All told out of about 125 rounds only about 6 were flyers that really got away from me and went outside of the target.
Believe it or not I was actually shooting this 65 better than I have been my SP101 in 22lr.
Now just have to find a holster for it.....been doing some searching on the net and nobody seems to want to make one for it. I am really searching for something like a deep concealement that keeps the bulk of the gun below the wasitline. any ideas there?

Harry: Desantis makes an open-top belt slide holster that I use for my 3" K-frame and like a great deal. Check out www.rfholsters.com

I have a three inch model 65. It is one of my favorite guns. I think it is very well balance. Handle and shoots very well.
As for your question, a modern double action revolver is about as safe as you can get. A round in a chamber is no problem. I have NEVER heard of a modern DA revolver accidently discharging. If it goes off, someone pulled the trigger, and not by accident either.
