I remember a thread a while back that talked about carrying while at the gym. Well, time has passed, we dropped the gym membership, and I need to work on getting back into shape. With that in mind, I plan to start running again. Hence the question: anyone have a suggestion for how I can safely and comfortably carry a handgun while running for exercise? I cannot think of a method that would be comfortable. I cannot wear a belt while running, so a belt holster is out, whether it be IWB or otherwise. Paddle holster is out as well, doesn't work with the elastic waistband of teh shorts or sweatpants. Should holster might work, but when I tried for a few minutes, I realized I was going to beat my ribs to death. Plus, as it gets warmer, I won't want to be wearing a jacket. Ankle holster? Forget it.

Any suggestions? Or, perhaps I should just get a can of good pepper spray? Or, just stick to my own quiet suburbian neightborhood and run on the sidewalks? Or, back to pepper, in case of problems with dogs, in addition to some human protection?

Fanny pack. A small one, with a light gun secured by good velcro.

Belly band with something light, such as a Kel Tec.

I pocket carry my wife's P3AT at the gym ... works pretty well (not too uncomfortable and hides real well)

I frequently wear a fanny pack or belly band with my Taurus 605 in .357. - works for me.

I always carry my Keltec P32 in the front pocket of my shorts. It's light, easy to get at and reliable.

Another vote for fanny/waist pack. I use one when running. It carries an airweight J-frame, speed strip, ID and CCW, house key, cell phone, and a Surefire if I run at night. Exercising is the probably the only time when the currently-unfashionable fanny packs aren't conspicuous, unless you're Napoleon Dynamite.

I use a fanny pack for jogging. Any lite gun will do. Heavy ones bounce and beat you up.

Hence the question: anyone have a suggestion for how I can safely and comfortably carry a handgun while running for exercise? IMO fanny packs scream "gun." I now have a treamill, but when I used to run on a regular basis, I carried a S&W 331 (.32 mag) in a Thunderwear pouch. It fit very comfortably under loose running shorts and since the shorts are looser than business trousers, I could easily access the gun quickly.

There was a very extensive thread on this that offered some good suggestions a while back. It will be worth it to you to do some searches and try to find it.

Carry an M1 Garand with a couple of hundred rounds of ammo. Get right in shape, fast!

There is a carrier for bicyclists and runners that is effectively a wide elastic belt with a pocket. You put it on with the pocket in the back and the gun in the pocket. It fits to you so the gun doesn't bounce and as I recall from seeing it the gun doesn't print. You could also carry ID, money, water, etc.

I can't find my links to it but I think it was Body Glove or something similar. I know bicyclists were using it because the gun was secure, concealed and accessible with either hand.

I know exactly what you need, and it is the same product mentioned by Mr. Laye: the Active Body Holster. A very fine product for its intended use.

Here is a link: Active Body Holster Company (http://www.politesociety.com/itmidx1.htm).

I have a couple of them. It is a wide belt made of neoprene like material, with a holster built into the belt. I have only carried as a large a pistol as a 2" SP-101, but it is waterproof, held the pistol securely, and most importantly did not bounce all around. I wore it under my T-shirt or cycling jersey so the pistol is in the small of my back.

I'd look into a Smart Carry or Thunderwear in addition to the Active Body.

When I go running I usually carry my CRKT M21-14 clipped IWB to my shorts/pants or clipped into the zippered back pocket if there is one.

I've also used a Camel Bak without the bladder to carry a gun on a few occasions when I was running with the wife after she had been threatened by a released felon. Just need a little practice slinging it off the shoulder and reaching in, ends up being pretty quick all things considered. You could also stash it in an outside pocket of a Camel Bak if that pocket was large enough.

A fanny pack screams 'gun' when people don't expect to see it, when it doesn't fit with what you are wearing or what you are doing.

IMO, while exercising is one of the few times the pack doesn't look gunny.

I use a fanny pack [DeSantis Leather] and a P-11 [kel-Tec] for excerise. Also makes a good car/commuting setup when placed between the front seats.

Just mount a MG3 GPMG on the treadmill you're running on. :)

But seriously, who the hell carries while in the gym!?!? You're just asking for trouble.

Might look at the "chest holster" from survival sheaths.

2nd to bottom of list. I use one during activities. I like mine b/c I have a north face fleece that unzips under the armpits. Easy access with good conealment.
