I am a moderator on an automobile forum and in an OT area the topic of CCW came up. Another member got right into the usual, guns are only for killing, I live in the ghetto and I don't need one, etc, etc.

I sent him to packing.org and I think he may just be come around.

I had a person ( a classmate ) get in my face about CCW . This was back when I attended another college and that instructor insisited we Americans should adapt the gun laws of her native England. The one I pulled my fire extinguisher trick on...

Anyway on another occasion for another class had to review a play. Parking lot w-a-y over yonder. Not a great part of town to be in at night. I was nice, but refused to walk her to her car. I reminded her of her "stance" and to use her cell phone if she was attacked.

Wellll she made it to her car - after she pleaded with a security guy to walk her out ( seems the Security was not supposed to leave premises). Scared to death the whole time.

Guess who decided a S&W 3913 made a lot more sense than just a Motorola cell phone. Somebody saw the light, and got a CCW. :)

Sometimes saying no and walking off is best.

You beautiful A**hole.

I love it.

As much as some people may not like this action I agree with it completely. A lot of antis hold their views because they have never faced the concequences of living with those views. I know of very few people who live in a potentially dangerous environment (low income, high crime, etc) who don't at least agree that I should be allowed to carry even if they don't want to do so themselves.

Step One: Dont call them belittling, patronizing names like sheeple.

Step One: Dont call them belittling, patronizing names like sheeple. Really? What would you suggest? Deliberately uninformed conformist?

How about "person who does'nt share the same interest that we do"?

What kind of reponse do you expect to get when you come off like a smart-butt? Is this the way to win friends and influence people, or do we not need to worry about that because of our natural superiority? "Supercilious" is not a personality trait to be proud of. :scrutiny:

The reason I used the term "sheeple" was so members of THIS forum would have a good idea of what the thread was about without clicking it.

I guess that it's OK to stereotype and name-call, as long as it is just us here.

Look, you have a great opportunity to shine the light, but you cannot expect people to respect your views if you disrespect them, themselves. "They" may have stupid ideas and think things we dont agree with, but devaluing them is not the way to make inroads.

We as gun owners get all boo-boo lipped and pouty if people look at us cross-eyed, but then we turn around and do the exact same thing. Is it OK for them to call us renecked neanderthals with feelings of phallic inadequacy, as long as they do it amongst themselves? I dont think so, but by our behavior we license them to do the same thing.

Sorry, but name-calling is a pet peeve. It is not the way I'd want to be treated, so I wont do it to others. No further.

Wow...already today I have been referred to as a heathen and the north end of south-bound mule...I'm flattered. :D

No- I do not take tacky pills - I'm just this way. :p

Now I am sentimental, caring, and have this thing about kids, dogs, firm handshakes, and ladies in distress...tell anyone and I'll deny it.

Here is my take, and why. I was "attracted to" certain mentors and elders - I wanted what they "had".

Folks generally do not make changes until THEY hit a bottom...whatever that may be for THEM. For instance for years folks told me my drinking was a problem...only until I hit MY bottom was I attracted to what the sober folks had - did I stop. Been sober 21 years now.

So instead of ranting , raving and "promoting" in a manner that turns folks off, which kicks in THEIR denial mechanism, I choose to :

1) let my living actions speak for themselves, 2) answer questions if asked, 3) hope the "attraction" of my actions and behaviors speak positive in regard to CCW, 2A , and RKBA.

4) Sometimes you gotta let a person hit bottom for them to shed the blinders and see the light.

Some call that Tacky, some call it Tough-L*ve. I call it Reality. Nobody ever said living life on life's terms was gonna be easy. Acceptance is the key. Look like prey and you get eaten.

One of them natural order of things...

"guns are only for killing"

If I ever heard someone say that, I'd smack them back into last month. Guns can be used for sport and for collecting, obviously you all know that :p

It really ticks me off when people say "ban guns" and crap like that. You want to ban guns? You mind as well ban spoons, forks, cars, screw drivers, and other TOOLS.

Or how about when when communists...err, liberals tell us that we "dont need" military style weaponry. Really.....then I guess we dont need SUVs, a family of 4 definitly does not need a 3 story mansion, we dont use cement, just wood. What a bunch of bullcrap.

Sorry for getting a little off topic. :D

If some one has an irrational fear of guns, flying, or, like myself, routers, you will never convert them with logical arguments. Education and enjoyment are the two tools to use. Teaching safe handling of guns (or routers) and experiencing the fun of target shooting or plinking (or watching that perfect 3/8" radius emerge behind the router) are the roads to converting an anti.
Personally, I find it amazing that all women don't carry, given the number that are victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. Here in RI there is amovement to eliminate the 7 day waiting period for women who have an order of protection against hubby, ex, bf.

Once again, plain old-fashioned reality intrudes upon leftist daydreams.

Once again ole sm cuts right through all the bs. Sometimes ex drunks have a way of seeing through all the crap, eh Steve?

I always enjoy your take on many things, podnah. Much appreciated wisdom.

I have an irrational fear of chain saws. Just lookin' at them boogers makes my skin crawl. I just KNOW that the chain is gonna let loose and slap back and hit me in the face, neck, chest and arm.

But once I had a little cabin that was only heated by a wood stove and I needed wood to heat it. I bought a chain saw to help me efficiently heat the place. I did not like it, I did not like to use it, I was was careful with it, but I stayed warm because of it. People laughed at me because of my emotional reaction to chain saws, called me a sissy etc. Good natured prodding sometime gets one to do what one needs to do to solve a problem. Some folks that I know don't like guns. I have called them sheep/sheeple/blissninny to their face. It's not the words that offend a reasonable man, its the way the words are used. Some of them think a little differently about firearms now. None of them have come all the way round, but at least they are engaging their brain regarding firearms.

I think we need to remember that there are guests here and we need to conduct ourselves accordingly. But some folks are, well, sheeple. There was a recent "Public Pulse" letter in our local paper. I almost swallowed my tongue when I read it. I wish I could post a link. But the jist of it was "guns are bad, we should get rid of all the guns" Logic: If we Americans would just get rid of our guns and show that "we all can just get along", we'd be an example to the rest of the world and somehow, magically we'd be living in nirvana. To call that guy a blissninny is to insult blissninnies. I don't have the answer to that sort of tin foil thinking. But I guess a guy like that wouldn't be visiting here anyway.

centac, you are right of course, but sometime the frustration that we feel by being barraged with all the misinformation, lies, distortions and evil intent by the anti's and the uninformed just spills out. I think most of us here understand that, and we do bring each other up short from time to time.

grampster, I ain't that big a deal - thanks for the kind words. :)

OK, I have got to hear this story..... Great here I am an older returning student taking IT classes and I cannot find my own posts doing a search. I keep telling you folks I ain't that smart... :p

I am an older returning student. At this other college I was taking English Lit and the instructor was in fact from England. Great instructor as far as Eng Lit - just "pushed" her ideology in regard to firearms are bad, Gun Control is good...etc. Snide remarks thrown in while reading Shakespeare and such.

Now I try to maintain a low profile - some classmates also were RKBA and CCW besides myself. I was pushed too far one day.

Gun Locks. Oh dear me, she went on about how great these things were. Well I decided to voice the opposing view, I mean we had anti's and fence sitters...I have a right to free speech.

Talking didn't seen to be working. Even with the help of classmates, some even ladies...

So I come to class with gun locks and fire-extingushers. :D Gonna do a visual demonstration and had my guiena pig picked out - the instructor.

So I put the lock on the FE, I said undo it. She eventually did. "See, that is not so hard?".

I put another gun lock on and this time we had the trash can with a pc of paper that said "fire" ....and pointed it out to her. Well it seems under stress, one cannot undo a Gun lock fast enough.

Fence sitters started looking our way...some antis too. Seems fire got their attention.

I mangaged to get a real trash can, and start a real fire outside kinda sorta off campus - had some Campus Police at the time kinda help out.

Get 4 folks stepping and fetching trying to get a lock off to put out a fire makes an impression.

When you parallel the fire with being attacked, raped, someone breaking in..."click" the light bulb goes off. "You cannot get to the tool for task"

Then you get to hear the fence sitters relate on Monday morning they went shooting over the weekend for the first time...Instructor just glared at me.

I really feel I lost a grade in that class due to me being me. I still made a B though. It was worth the loss to make a point and have some folks come to the same side of fence as I .

Always been a rebel and one to stand my ground.

Now she presented her arguments, like when she demonstrated how I could not steal her umbrella, took a gun lock and secured it to a eye bolt. I walked up with a pair of side-cutter and cut the cable. " But that is illegal" she said.

My reply - " If I am a criminal -what do I care about legal?"

I knew that arguement was gonna come up...I was prepared , all sorts of stuff in my backpack. :D

She had a right to present her side - I just took the opposing one .

She had required reading that gave her slant. When options for us to choose - I chose mine...so did my classmates in the same camp as I .

Cool Hand Luke - as presented by me - she will never forget. :D

Visuals work well - no talking needed and concrete versus abstract works better for some folks...

She did ask if I had taken speech...I had . I aced Speech and the part about being persausive.

"Oh - I can see that"
