It seems that West Virginia seems to have a problem with not punishing our sex offenders. The average time spent in jail for the guys who committed illegal sexual acts on children 0-5 was 1-2 years in jail :fire: . Is anyone else disgusted by this? Seriously, it stinks that sexual offenders get so little jail time - but in many cases, the citizens of the States involved are not prepared to pony up enough money to pay for the expanded prison system that would be required to give them longer sentences. One sees this all across the country. Voters howl for longer, tougher sentences, but then howl even louder when they find out that their State government will have to raise taxes and/or cut back on other programs to pay for the cost of those sentences. It's a no-win situation: and so, the sentences stay short, or are cut short by paroles and probations.

Exactly. I get grief all the time for letting sex offenders out, but cannot hold them 1 minute past sentance expiration. If you want them held longer, elect people who will change the laws, and don't complain at the cost. Average cost to house inmates in AZ as of February, is $19,750 each, per year. POrobably higher where you live....

I agree, preacherman, it is sad, but I don't see why people wouldn't be willing to fork up a few more bucks to protect the innocence of their children. But then, I guess moneys more important than a families safety. :banghead:

That is why sexual predation should be a capital punishment offense. As for those who will argue the "eighteen year old who had sex with his sixteen year old girlfriend" defense. Don't go there. I'm talking the rule, not the exception.

Convict 'em and kill 'em. Whosoever shed man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed. A simple, effective deterrent. Make it a trial by jury of his peers and we'd have this mess cleaned up in no time.
