The CZ-52 hard chromed is absolutely gorgeous. The SKS, not so much. I don't know much about hard chroming, but on something that would be a truck gun would this be more durable/rust resistant/etc. than the factory bluing?

I can't get over the irony of the Yugo being chrome everywhere but the inside the barrel. But for only $20 more than I paid for my Yugo, I'd buy it.

I really want the Chrome -52. Its purty.

I don't think the fact that they sell AKs was part of what was being pointed out. Lots of people here own and shoot AKs, nothing wrong with having an AK.

Okay, evilness time.

I've already got a CZ-52.

Anybody know where I could get that thing hard chromed if I wanted to? Are there such things as hard chroming kits that can be done at home?

Oh, the evil, oh the evil.........

I could go for the CZ, not bad at all. The SKS, however, I don't really know what I feel.

May 2, 2005, 12:48 AM
I actually think they look pretty cool. The CZ doesn't look unusual at all IMO.

At those prices, are the guns worth anything? I realized SKSs were cheap, but I didn't realize they were THAT cheap. $99 for an SKS is awfully tempting. . .

Yes, it would be. I haven't seen any ones for the 52 on Hakan's website though. I would wonder about the cost though, they are too pretty to cost any less than a pretty penny. :what:

Oh well, once I finally get around to getting a pistol I'll get a pair from him. They're too pretty to turn down.

any body else notice rock island armory 45's for 289?

You bet. Got one just a few weeks ago.

Heck of a deal for that price, a much nicer gun than I expected. I put about 200 rounds of hardball through it so far without a single malfunction.

Only change I made was to replace the smooth wood grips with some milsurp panels.

I don't know much about Rock Island 1911s. But I have dealt with Classic Arms before, when I bought my SKS last year, and the service was excellent.

Oviously, a chromed surface is harder and more resistant to wear and corrosive ammo, but does chroming change in any way the way the gun functions? Do metal-to-metal contacts gall less, or move past each other more easily?

For that matter, what parts are, and aren't, part of the chroming?

I like that CZ, and yes! A Makarov would be cool. :D

Grrr! Why did you have to post this? Now they may sell out of the chrome CZ's before I can get mine at the Raleigh gun show on Saturday.

I have purchased two pistols from classic arms, a Bulgy Mak and one of my current CZ-52's. They are a great vendor, and always the first table I head toward at any of the NC gun shows I've been to. I saw and handled a few of the chrome CZ's they did last year, they are truly stunning. Don't ask why I didn't buy one then. I had one CZ52 at that time and didn't think I needed another. Now I have two and I do think I need another.

Dude...can you imagine some Maks like that? Kew

Sorry guys. I had the exact thought last year, when Classic Arms did their first run of chromed CZ52's. I called them and talked with them about doing some Maks. A few weeks later I got a call and they said they just couldn't make it work. I don't really know why. Of course at that time they also said they doubted they were gonna do any more '52's but I found out at the Fayetteville show last month that they had reconsidered and would have a run ready about now.

As a matter of fact I called them today to make sure they would have some of the chrome 52's at the show, they said they had a run just finishing up so it should be no problem. They're also going to bring some of that sweet Polish surplus 7.62 x 25.

After the show on Saturday I'll be sure to take some pics. I know a guy at Club CZ52 (http://p201.ezboard.com/fczechpistols82792frm59) who makes custom-colored CZ-52 grips, so I'll probably get some flat black from him for the chrome one and maybe some OD green for my military gray parkerized one. I already have checkered walnut grips on my blued CZ.

Maybe I'll take a nice pic of the three '52's and post it up on this thread. IF THEY DON'T SELL OUT BETWEEN NOW AND SATURDAY THANKS TO YOU PEOPLE!!

Sure is hard to keep a secret around here.......

The bluing on my SKS is in absolutely pristine shape. A thin coat of CLP on it, and it gleams. The only gun that I have that looks better is my Remington 700 BDL -- the smooth exterior surface of the barrel is like a black mirror, and the jeweled (or whatever you call them) bolt is incredible.

That said, the actual SKS drill/ceremonial rifles look a lot better than this. I would love to have a drill SKS hanging on my wall, but I suspect they're still being used by the various countries that made them.

I managed to get my hands on the LAST chrome CZ52 that they had at the Raleigh show on Saturday. (I didn't end up getting there till after 11.) Pics will follow soon.

FYI, I also broached the subject of the chromed Maks with one of they guys from Classic Arms, he didn't see any reason why they couldn't do it, other than the fact that they are totally out of Bulgarian Makarovs at the present time.

When I talked to them last year they were not too keen on the re-finishing projects, because they didn't think anyone would pay more than the $60 extra they were charging for the chrome CZ's over the normal ones, and they were basically making no money since it cost them that to do the refinishing, and it's time-consuming and costly to fire up the plating tanks.

However, this year seemed to be different, although the price of the chrome CZ's was only $10 higher than last year (and the normal CZ's were also $10 higher), they actually did a second emergency run last week after the first run sold out so fast. I don't know if they'll do anymore this year but if they're having success I expect that they will.

If enough people send them comments or call and inquire about some refinished Maks, it would probably get done.

Can someone here tell me what caliber the "CZ" pistol is? I'm not familiar with it. Also, how good a pistol are they and how much would a regulare non-chromed one cost? Thanks.

Daniel T
May 13, 2005, 04:47 PM
Tinker,

The CZ52 is chambered for 7.62x25 Tokarev. The pistols are generally very reliable, but can have fragile firing pins. No dry firing without snap caps on these.

The 7.62x25 Tok round is very high velocity as well, and these pistols are very loud.

Definitely a good buy right now.

I've seen quite a few of those chromed sks's at the local shows.

These wore black synth furniture and were about 300 bucks.

I really like the looks of the sks's in black and chrome.

The chromed CZ-52's had been $169 a few weeks ago. They jacked the price up to $190, then, which, for me, goes beyond "cool fun shooter" to "wow, $100 more and I could have a Kahr."

Oh well.
