As i plunked down another 15$ for a box of federals low recoil buckshot i said to the clerk "there has to be a cheaper solution". Then the guy behind the counter told me i should get into reloading.

Ive never reloaded anything, i dont even know were to start or what i need.

im thinking of reloading for 12 ga.

specifically the load mentioned above and then probably bird shot.

what do i need for this?
is it a lot of stuff?
Is it cheaper?
better?

Well, better or as good as factory loads can be made by reloading. Price wise a 25 round box of birdshot loads can be made for about $2.85 or so with the price of shot going up.

Buckshot is a little more involved because you should really put a buffering agent in the shells with the buckshot, and buck is a bit more expensive to buy, but it should be able to keep 25 rounds under $7.00 maybe, it's a lot more work reloading buck than birdshot.

If you get serious a MEC 600 jr is the place to start, especially for buck shot.

How many rounds in that box???

You can reload buckshot just like you can reload birdshot, and get as complicated or simple as you want. See http://www.precisionreloading.com/reloadingmanualsguides.htm for some loads, many others available in different manuals. You can find components onlne too- http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/department.asp?dept=RELOADING&dept2=SHOTSHELL+COMPONENTS&dept3=BUCKSHOT for example.

Curiosity: howcome you're shooting up so much buck you need to reload it? I practice with whatever birdshot loads are on sale cheep, and buy buck/slugs on sale by the case when I find 'em. All I use 'em for is patterning/zeroing/carrying, I shoot up what I rotate out of the guns every so often to keep the shells from bulging but that's about it for me- course, I haven't been running 3-gun for several years now either... .

Oh no reason lee, i target practice with it a lot mostly and im always looking into the cost effective route. plus everybody is always saying how much fun it is so i figure if i could come by a used loader why not.
