I mean do you avoid spinners or automated decoys and use old fashioned duck calls like this? Do you get you spread set up and have an hour to wait for sun up? Do you take the long way to the hole just to through everyone else off? Have you never blown a highball at ducks and nothing more than a few quacks, a feed cluck or a few short pleading greeting notes?

I get out early, hunt hard and basically LIVE to hunt ducks. I do use the spinner decoy and the best modern calls I can get though. I use the highball call, effectively I might add, but once they turn I get real soft and easy on the call. To each his own, I can easily understand how another man can love the sport like I do.

It's a Doc Hull (www.DocCalls.com) Glodo style barrel made from stablilized Maple Burl with a non stick insert. It is all hand made and hand fitted using manual machining. It has the best quack of any call I have ever heard and it may be replacing the now fourth Generation Olt D2 Cut down call in my family lineage.

I really haven't hunted the elusive duck since the 60's but my good friend, Dr Bob who is the owner of the land our deer camp is on is the consummate duck hunter usually offers the following:

The ducks will only come to our hole if it's a bluebird day.

The ducks won't show up for a while so let's cook some breakfast.

This man will bring me a limit of duck to grill while I'm out hunting the elusive deer. I know that he has a Robo Duck because he has asked me if I had any spare D cells. :)

Heck my truck always has both duck and goose calls in the glove box. And I don't even care for geese. But I do like calling them. Before I lost my last dog sitting in a blind was the only thing he loved more than quail.

First thing I ever hunted was ducks. Remember being the one in the blind frying up the bacon and eggs while my step father and his buddy were out setting the decoys. I was 10 and loved it. He stopped hunting when I was 12 and I havent hunted ducks since.

He just last year gave me his double barrel 10 guage shotgun that he used to hunt with. I guess that means he never plans on hunting them again.

I do though. I have been itching to get out duck hunting and when I get back stateside I am gonna get back into it.

Nothing finer in the morning sunrise than to see a flock of mallards, wings set, converging on your decoys in 10 degree weather.;)

I thank you for doing what you do. Without it, we would not be able to duck hunt. I pray for you all each night that the Lord will give you courage and cast away all fear.

Here's to you being in that blind soon and by the way try Bismuth Shot Shells in that 10 Gauge. They are easy on seasoned shotguns
