I need to get a pellet rifle that is capable of taking small game such as black birds, squirrels, rabbits etc. I need a rifle that is very quiet when being fired. Anyone have any suggestions?

Yes, the RWS model 46 at 920 fps is very efficient on squirrels, it have an underbarrel cock lever and fixed barrel, so is inherently more accurate than the break barrels.
Mine is quiet, I also have RWS model 36 (break barrel) model 52 (fixed barrel side lever) and model 54 (side lever floating action) the 36 is quiet also, but not the 52. and for the 54 I had to go to heavy pellets 12 grains because it break the sound barrier with lighter pellets.

The 46 is a favorite, I have a scope a Bushnell Trophy 6x-18x on RWS one piece mounts.

The Beeman R7 is very quiet, it's also not particularly powerful, but it should do the trick if you shoot very precisely. Work your way up slowly on the game (don't start with the squirrels and rabbits), and you'll be able to tell when you shouldn't try to go any bigger.

Even very powerful conventional airguns are anemic by firearm standards. Hunting or pest control with an airgun requires very precise shooting. There is little or no margin for error, the only tissue damage is the very small hole the pellet makes. If the hole's in the wrong place you will get to watch your target depart, wounded, and at high velocity.

I believe this ''Eurolux'' is Chinese origin but - I have found very effective. It was offered thru sportsmans Guide - bought it IIRC three plus years ago. Cal .177 and rated 1,000 fps. I chrono'd it with my beman heavyweight pellets and back then got a genuine 950 fps.

It seems to cope with the red dot - or vice versa!! Excellent lever for loading but loading is fiddly. I also have an old HW35 and an even older Webley MkII (tap loader with under lever) - this one tho is the most potent I have found - and was IIRC not too silly a price ... trying to recall now - $139 perhaps ... not quite sure.

Crosman 1077, if you can find one. CO2 powered, will drop a blackbird or tree rat at usual ranges, and it's a repeater! 12 shots as fast as you can pull the trigger. Gets about 40-60 shots from a CO2 cartridge; I would like to find a way to use a paintball cartridge on mine.
It uses a detachable magazine that holds a little disk with 12 holes for the pellets; the trigger pulls a tab that indexes the rotor.

Actually that's the rule. There are only a few states that allow any game animals to be taken with airguns. I only know of one offhand.

Try to find one of the GAMO 220 series - either in wood or synthetic stock - .177 cal 1000 fps barrel break. Usually can be found in a combo with a BSA 4X32 airgun scope, for under $200.

Have customers who consistently make kills on squirrels, crows, groundhogs & etc. Requires a head or good shoulder shot, therefore the need for a scope - the real serious shooters usually put a better grade variable scope on the gun; however, the 220 has decent fixed sights for those who do not like scopes. Usually combos cost about the same as as the guns without scopes. Spanish gun/life time guarantee.

Not really sure of any air rifle thats "very quiet" and capable of taking small game :confused:
