There are several good AK tutorials and info there.

I wouldnt do it, I'd find a way to get the parts count without replacing the superior MAK-90 FCG with a piece of trash.
What I suggest is keeping the trigger and hammer, but finding a compatible US made disconnector, then replacing the gas piston and stock set, that would be 5 parts.

I began the process of replacing the thumbhole stock on my MAK90 with one from www.Ironwooddesigns.com. What i did to make my rifle 922 compliant is to replace the handguards, stock and grip with one from Ironwood designs and then replace the magazine followers and baseplates on my magazines.
From my research the wood group qualifies as three parts and the mag followers and baseplates qualify as two giving you the required 5 parts in order for it to be compliant with a pistol grip. If you intend to install a flash suppressor then I would change out the piston tube. I find that the MAK90 fire control group to be the best I have ever seen in any AK variant.
