Sorry to disgree but my 1965 Royal Blue Colt Python makes these current guns look like second place finishers. Bought it new in '65 for $100. Carried it for 20 years but had to switch to a Sig 220 in '85. I still have the box and the bill of sale.
NO, it is not for sale. Don't even ask.
Sorry I can't post a picture,

I'm pretty sure my father's 6" inch S&W Model 19 is "the ultimate .357". But then, I haven't yet shot or handled an old Python.

For me, the ultimate 357 magnum is the Ruger KGP-141. I als have a SP-101. Haven owned a S&W 686 and a Taurus , but can't remember the model.

Jim March,
TheMayor's Dan Wesson appears to be a very early version model 15. I have one too, mine is the pistol pack and has different grips. Mine also has a target rear sight, but same gun I believe. The earlier models (12 and 14) had exposed barrel nuts and the later ones have a full underlug barrel shroud. Mine has probably the best trigger I have ever felt on a revolver.

Well now, those are all fine revolvers, but none (except maybe the Freedom Arms) will top this one as the ultimate strongest 357 revolver. :)

the 6" gp's are pretty neat. Sometimes even neat enough to carry concealed - like in this old Bianchi X2100

...hhmmm...I LIKEE the "Registered Magnum"...the old Pythons are cool, too...Is it just ME, or is it hard to think of a RUGER as the "Ultimate" anything???...FWIW, MY nomination would be ANY pre-Model-number S&W N-frame .357....mikey357

Yes Mikey, It's just you. :D I understand what you're saying but when you're talking modern production over the last 20 years, Smiths and Colts have not kept up with Rugers. The Ruger of today outclasses any other revolver made today.
mikey357
March 21, 2003, 07:04 PM
...oh, PUH-LEEZE...the Rugers of TODAY are serviceable, but...hardly the "ULTIMATE"...ask any Ruger collector...just like everything else, Rugers ain't what they used to be...and, IMHO, they NEVER WERE the "ULTIMATE"...my two cents' worth, anyway....you wanna' talk REFINEMENT, let's talk mid-60's Pythons and pre-Model-number Smiths and Korth revo's--if anybody can AFFORD 'em...the Rugers are kinda' like a VW Bug or Timex...they'll take a lickin' and keep on tickin', but REFINED they're NOT....mikey357

Depends on your definition of "ultimate". In terms of a magnum revolver, I'd consider the "ultimate" one to be the one that was strongest and could handle the mostest, hottest loads. In that regard, the Ruger is tops.
If you consider aesthetics, trigger, and refinement to be the determining factors, then other weapons might be your first choice.

I really like the Rugers, but I won't go so far as to say they outclass any revolver made today. If any can outclass any other revolver that would be the Freedom Arms revolvers. Few if any other handguns are made today with that attention to detail or close tolerances. They certainly have a strong claim on "strongest" with the M83 versions as well.
Asthetics will of course be subjective and if single actions aren't your thing they aren't likely to fit your bill for ultimate.

I would heartily agree that the Freedom Arms products are the hands down quality champion. I would also not put them in the same league as Colt, Ruger and S&W though. I would have to put Freedom Arms in a semi custom category based on the much lower production numbers and the premium price. I would expect a custom shop piece from Colt or S&W to be in that league, even though they are sadly not.
