I'm 32 and own one. Had it customized before there was a factory customized 1911 like the Kimber. Colt still has some of the best parts out there.

I'am 24 and have a remington rand/essex 1911 its very reliable and I use it for personal protection often. I know its not a colt but it is a 1911. :D I feel the 1911 to be the best fighting handgun ever devised I feel its only drawback to be its weight as far as concealed carry goes.

However that can be countered with a good gun belt and holster combo. With a rafters gun belt/iwb holster you don't even feel the thing there.

I had a .380 Colt at 15. I bought my first 1911, a veteran of WW-I from an Army Colonel I knew when the Korean war started in 1950, when I was 20. Carried it through the war and long afterward. I've had dozens of 1911's, worked on thousands of them and today I own 4 of them.
The latest blued Gold cup is one I built from the slide and frame of a new Series 80 GC. Another favorite is a stainless Kimber I stripped to slide and frame and built to my own specifications.
A 1911 saved my life once during the war and once during my career as a police officer. I have carried lots of different pistols and revolvers, but my first choice will always be the 1911.
My 1911's never, ever let me down. However, there were many nights I was dead tired, but I cleaned and lubricated it before I slept. I found that if I took care of it, it would take care of me.

I owned two of the @#$%^&! things in my thirties. Never again! I bought a Kimber model 1911 in my early fifties.

I'm 37.

I own 3 1911's. None are Colts. When I got interested in auto loaders I instantly liked the 1911, I didn't like the quality of the Colts at the time. Still haven't got over that.

I do have a Colt Gov't .380. Does that count?

I'm 31 and I have two. A new Lightweight Commander XSE and a US Property marked 1911 made in 1917. I've also owned a Delta Elite(should have kept that one) and a 70 series commander.

Wait a minute, are you saying someone other than Colt makes 1911s???

That is heresy.

28, Colt SR70 is one of the nicest and most reliable 1911s I have owned. It is not as reliable or carried as often as my Rem-Rand bobtail nag though. That gun is fugly beautiful in it's own way, but it runs like a champ.

Would not waste the time to pee on a new Colt, but am always on the lookout for any pre or SR70 guns/Gold Cups and any military guns.

Bought my first in '73 at the age of 18. Colt Combat Commander.
Stolen later. Currently don't have a Colt brand personally, but have one I use at the 'office'. Do have other names on 1911's. Gave my Kimber Custom Target series I a workout today. Played with Caspians, today also.

I thought this was going to be one of those check the box type polls. I don't know to deal with words and things. I'm Audi 5000.

I had a Defender - after I bought my Valtro, I just could not stand the Defender - relatively poorly made, poorly fitted, etc.

I'm 51yo (creak!) and LOVE the 1911 design! I have seven .45's with the Colt name on 'em plus one "off brand" (Detonics). It's not that I don't like the Kimber, et al.; I've just never gotten around to buying any 'cause my stable is already so well filled. I bought my first Colt (a satin nickel Combat Commander) over twenty-five years ago; I still have it (of course!)

Oh, yeah, and if you're going to count the Colt .380 Government Model and Mustang, I've got one each of them, too!
