Thinking about picking up a Savage .22 or .17. Not sure on which cal. yet. More then likely .22 just because it is cheaper. I like the looks of the Syn. stock and SS barrel. Is the synthetic any less accurate then a wood stock? I know a lot of you reccommend the CZ but I dont really want to spend that kind of money. What would you guys reccommend?? Dont want to pick up a .223, building an AR right now as well, just want something to mess around with.

If you want a good, cheap rifle, go to a pawn shop -- they usually have a rack full of .22s to choose from.

I did a quick check on www.gunsamerica.com . Here is a typical Savage .22:

$149.00 NIB, Factory New & unfired SAVAGE MODEL MARK II FXP w/ SCOPE. 20.75" bbl in .22 LR cal. Mark-II Rimfire Series model. Black synthetic PG stock w/ positive checkering. Simmons 4x15mm scope. Adjustable notched rear sight, bead post front sight. Blued barreled action, free-floating and button-rifled barrel. 10-shot detachable magazine. OA Length 39

Figure an additional $15 to $25 for shipping, plus a $10 to $25 fee from your local pawnshop or FFL dealer to handle the paperwork for you.

if you like the savage by all means get it. Savage rimfires and centerfire rifles offer alot of gun for the money. I have centerfire, friend a .17 HMR , both very accurate and price was right.

Vern, the same gun you have listed our local Walmart has on sale right now for $99. That is the one that caught my eye. Read a lot of good things about Savage rifles on here. Figure with the scope I cant go wrong.

before you order, go to a shop and handle one of the synthetic stocks.

their rimfire stocks are even flimsier than their centerfire versions.

you might want to spend the extra and get the nice wood stock. ;)

not a Savage basher. I own 2 centerfires. they both have aftermarket stocks. :D
