Hi,

Nice piece. I've got one, too, but mine's not too reliable. It has many FTF's requiring a tap on the back of the slide to close or a tap-rack-bang to clear. I'm hoping it's just a matter of breaking in.

Also, be careful of shooting to empty with the slide locking back. The slide seems to be somewhat soft and the notch seems to be peening with time. This was mentioned on the old Scott & McDougal site.

P.S. are those Collins grips and what are they made of?

Yes they are collins grips, they are made of black corian.

The slide peening you are refering to was a run of blue colt goverment 380's and mustangs that were made aroung 1990 I believe.

The tap-rack-bang stuff seems odd, how many rounds do you have through your pocket nine? Maybe try some wolff extra power recoil springs, use a good gun grease on the rails.

My pocket nine has close to 500rds and has not malfunctioned once.

One gun owner posts a picture.

Another gun owner reports low reliability and a peening slide notch.

Result?

"Nice piece. Nice gun."

It's like hyponosis at work.

Handy...:D

I honestly believe he was mistaken about the peening issue, I do recall the slide notch issue he's refering to and is was related to a batch of solf slides on some blue colt 380's 10-12 yeras ago..

Your reply did me me LOL though..:p

Thanks.

I picked this up NIB unfired 6 or 7 weeks ago.

The first time I shoot it, I put 225 rounds through it, after cleaning and coating the inards with militec. I use shooters choice grease on the slide rails.

Fuction was perfect, ammo was 115g cci blazer,115g win. ball and 115g win jhp's.

The trigger was a little gritty for the first 50-75rds then it really smoothed up nice.
I was shooting indoors at a distance of 25ft and accuracy was excellent once I got use to the trigger and gun feal.

Its a very impressive piece, very well made and seems like it will be very durable. (I have read that durability tests were stopped at 15k rounds, with no parts breakage etc..) after the range trip I detail stripped and cleaned and took a close look at the frame rails, there was zero wear, marks or galling. I was a little concerned with this as my alloy colt mustangs show quite a bit of wear, I shoot my stainless mustangs instead and use the alloy for carry because of this.
But this does not look like it will be a issue with the pocket nine, the frame appears to be a much harder more durable alluminum alloy than used in ther mustang series, The frame and slide material appear to be the same as that used on the 45 defender series.

Its an excellent pocket piece, I use a fist kydex pocket holster that I like alot, This is the best pocket holster i have used for an auto, its a new design with a push off at the top that makes for a very slick draw but also keeps the rear of the slide lifted from your thigh, a major complaint with an auto for pocket carry is it rides tight to you thigh, slowing your grip purchase and draw, this pocket holster solves that.

Not many people know about these gems, they were only made for one year (1999) about 6000 units before colt was sued by kahr arms for copying the barrel lug/lock up. not sure if colt will be able to make them again, its a shame because I believe they would be every bit as popular as the mini kahrs and glocks..

I've got about 500 rounds through it now, with zero malfuntions or wear anywhere on the gun.

Pretty gun, but how good is corian as a grip material?

It looks too slick for use on a SD gun, especially such a cute little bugger that may slip around in your hands?

Good point.

The black corian is pretty but as you say is is a little slick, they do not feal any slicker than the kahr plastic grips or smooth wood stocks though. Checkered wood would be best.

One nice thing is the alloy frame material has a slightly gritty texture and the front and rear strap are exposed, this is probally the reason the slick grip material has not bothered me, this weekend it was pretty warm for the time of the year and my hands were moist while shooting, The mk-9 was slicker in my hand than the colt. The kahr's backstrap is covered by the plastic grips and the front strap is polished stainless..

Hi All,

You guys were right, I just checked my pistols, and the slide stop peening was on my Pony Pocketlite. The Pocket 9's slide seems to be okay, although, like I said, it hasn't been reliable enough for me to have fired much through it. I have probably shot 3-400 rounds of Winchester USA and Federal American Eagle 115 FMJ.

As I said, I am having many failures to feed, with the round not chambering fully. It seems the nose of the round gets hung up on the feed ramp. I've polished the ramp with Flitz and it seems smooth but has not cured the problem. Usually, a slight bump on the back of the slide does the trick. Sometimes, it requires a slight retraction of the slide, then releasing the slide forcefully will chamber the round. Other times, I have to do a tap-rack to eject the stuck round and chamber a new one. This happens with all of my 3 factory Colt magazines and also with some other OEM non-Colt marked magazines as well.

The pistol was NIB when I got it. Anyone have any ideas or know of a good Pocket 9 smith. I was thinking of sending it off to Scott & McDougal, but they're not accepting new jobs for now.

As far as the grips, Dave Wayland made a run of smooth and checkered wood-laminate grips, but these are no longer in production since he passed away and are now quite difficult to come by.

Thanks.

PS- Pocketman, does the tab on the Fist holster dig into your thigh while carrying in a tight pocket? It seems as though it would. Also, if you like the MK9, you ought to try the PM9.

Those look like excellent pistols, I had heard that the reason Colt discontiued the model was over a lawsuit brought by Kahr.

Anyone heard this?

I have a friend that has one... wasn't too reliable for him but he didn't try to do anything to fix it.

It seems like a quality piece and handles well.

Bergeron, Yes that was part of the reason colt stopped making the pocket nine. This was at the same time they caved to the all pending law suits, had terrible management and ceased most of the handgun production. There is talk of the pocket nine coming back in 2005-2006, but who knows.

plnkr1234, if your having those problems i would just send it back to colt and let them make it right. It still has a full warrenty and colt has all parts available.
The tab on the fist holster is Un-noticable, I do not feal it on my thight at all, It is in my pocket atleast 12 hours a day. Then it goes on my ankle in a renegade ankle holster... ;)
I would like to check out a pm-9, but they are not on the approved handgun sales list in my state..:banghead:

Very nice duo! Thanks for sharing :) How does the performance compare between the 2? I've heard some good things about that Kahr.

POCKETMAN
First I cut out a cardboard grip then transfered that shape to the wood. Then I cut the rough shape with a band saw. Finish shaping with a belt
sander and dremel. Sandpaper, sandpaper. I think that I had 3 sets come out pretty good. I sold one set on e-bay. I was thinking about making and selling them but I lost a lot of blood trying to sand those little grips on a belt sander.:(
