For a number of reasons, until today I hadn't fired a centerfire rifle since 1990.
On the other hand, I've averaged around 9K rounds per year through handguns during the period.
Last year I added a fiberglass stock to a Remington 700 308 Win. I acquired new in 1974. This Friday I added a Leupold 3x9 to the rifle. Today I fired it with loads which I assembled in 1996. All did fairly well, although I had some horizontal stringing as the barrel heatred. I found a contact point in the barrel channel of the stock which I believe may be causing that problem , and I relieved that pressure point when I got home.
Within the next couple of weeks I'll be back at the range to see if the sringing problem is corrected, and also to verify what is the best load with the new stock.
I had forgotten how much fun rifle shooting can be.
