Info source for old Weaver scopes?

Does anyone know of any good sources of information for old(El Paso, TX, USA made) Weaver rifle scopes? I saw a nice condition, plain crosshair K-4 today, complete with a set of the old Weaver see-through endcaps-on-a-string. It says: "Weaver K4 60-C ; USA Pat. No. xxxxxx ; El Paso Tex USA". Sure would make a great back-up scope for my pre-64 M-70 Featherweight! :D But as always lately, I mustn't spend the $$. :(

I'm especially curious about that "60-C".

Any idea on what it's worth? Excellent condition, bright & clear, the owner just bought himself a nice new Leupold 2-7. If I could only scrounge an extra $50... :banghead:

I don't know anymore, maybe $75 give or take $25. I googled up a 3-y-old for sale ad on a K-4 60-C and he was asking $65 OBO. According to the '67 Shooter's Bible a new K-4 listed for $45 (when McDonalds was paying $1.15/hr.)

Thanks, John. I found out last night, he's *firm* on a $50 price- but that does include the endcaps, a nice little extra & pretty rare. I figure a very small percentage of old Weavers have those. ;)

Yup, I remember the price of Weaver scopes back then. In 1969 or 1970, at the ripe old age of 16, I bought Weaver's then-new aluminum version of the K-4, called the 400 Classic, with the latest thing, a Duplex crosshair! :D IIRC, the scope & mounts cost ~$40 total at Tony's H&T Sporting Goods in Longview, TX - he always had a decent discount off of list prices. Unfortunately, Weaver went cheap on the adjustment mechanisms in those new aluminum models & used plastic parts, mine gave up the ghost. I could get it repaired at Weaver Scope Repair & have steel adjustment parts installed, but that's gonna get expensive.

I may break down & get it just for nostalgia & as a back-up scope. Also, it would be interesting to put it alongside my early 90's Japanese Weaver V-10! I suspect the optical quality of the newer one will be much better. There's just something about a Weaver scope on a Model 70 that makes me smile... :D
