I was wondering if any one had information/pictures of early peep sites. I know that they were used on early Swiss and German rifles but haven't found any pictures. thanks

Check out:

They sell very close reproductions to the early style tang sights, and the later Soule sights. I have several sets on my rifles and they perform very well.

How early?
Vernier tang sights as sold by MVA were a pretty late development, the Soule drum windage did not come along until about 1880. There were earlier and/or less expensive graduated or adjustable tang sights, mostly post CW.

Ned Roberts 'The Muzzleloading Caplock Rifle' describes a peep sight ca 1840 as a steel disc with a small hole in the exact center and a threaded stem 2 1/2 or 3 inches long, set in a threaded hole in the tang of the rifle. Elevation adjustment was whatever a half turn of the stem got with the thread pitch chosen, anything from 40 to 100 tpi. No windage adjustment.

I was more interested in pre 1800
