I bought a pump shotgun today and I would like to identify it. The barrel is stamped 'PROOFTESTED - 12 GUAGE' and '2 3/4 INCH CHAMBER'. The stocked is attached by tangs and the lower tang has the serial number 47xx. The safety is mounted on the upper tang. There are no other markings on the gun that I can find.

Looks like a Stevens 720, a Browning design. Does it have a square hole in top of the reciever?

It does have a square hole in the top of the receiver. This appears to be where the bolt locks. Thanks for the ID.

Hello
Actualy it is a Stevens , but it is the model 520
They were in fact a browning design and are a pretty good shotgun. They are also take down models if you haven't noticed.

I carried one of those for a couple of years, 40 years ago. Used hard znd frequently and never let me down. I would have liked to bring it home but obviously my replacement needed it more. Good solid under reated shotgun.

Looks to be a 520. I have a 620 (rounded receiver) from just about 1940.
I love mine. Very slick action. The take down does make for handy transport.
