I just bought five guns off a guy with financial problems and one of them is a S&W Combat Masterpiece. I'd like to know when it was manufactured. The revolver is a nickel plated .38 Special and the serial number is K 1266xx.

The first new handgun I ever purchased was a .22 Combat Masterpiece in 1957 and I kept it for 30+ years until it was stolen. I have a special fondness for the Combat Masterpiece and will probably have this one refinished since the nickel plating has some rough spots.

So far - looks like 1951 - the spread of S/N's that year was K104048 thru K136690.

That gun model first made 1949 apparently.
