Wife's first day at the range

My wife took her first trip to the range with me today. I wanted her to try my new AR and P99. She's shot .22's before but it's been a long while. I fired a mag full in each to acquaint her with the sight and sound of them. Then I spent some time showing her how to load the mags and how to operate each gun and then let her start firing them. It didn't take long (about 10 rounds thru each) to get her hooked. She started grinnin' and firin' and re-loadin'... until she went thru over 50 rounds in each!! Then she asked for more ammo!!! This can't be good! Now I'll have to share (or this could be a thinly disguised plan on my part to get more guns. His and Her's!!) ;)

It is a great feeling isnt it. I took my 13 yr old daughter to the range today. Her with her 22/45 and me with my Colt 45 acp. She shot hers alittle then said dad let me try yours. 150 rnds and me loading mags with a big smile.:) Oh I am seeing me casting a lot more now and giving the Dillon a workout. Man and she is accurate. Her next pistol will be a 45. Got to keep the ladies involved in the sport. Boon

Cool.

I think I read somewhere that the fastest growning segment of the world of shooting is women shooters.

The first gun my wife ever shot was my class-3 mac-11 in full auto mode. She dumped all 30 rds and screamed in fear! hehe
She sicks to 22's excusively now. I know it was a bad thing to do, no need to tell me :)

The last time that I had my wife and kids, ages 18, 10, and 6, out to the range, we burned up 2000 rounds of ammo (223, 308,45auto,38spec,22lr) and I never got the chance to fire one round. Spent all of my time loading mags for the 10/22, for my 10 and 6 yr old girls, while my wife and oldest daughter shoot my pistols and rifles. So be careful when you introduce wife and kids to the fun of shooting, that could very well be the day that you become nothing more that a magazine loader for the famly!!!!!!!
:cuss: :banghead: :what: :D

That is certainly one of the dangers DE44mag. While she's loading her own mags, she is cutting into may share of the ammo budget (which was all mine before!) :)

Guess I'll have to put in for an increase for more ammo.

This is working out better than originally planned! :)

Don't forget to teach her how to field strip, clean, and re-oil the pistols too.

My bride and my daughter can both shoot fairly well. I heard that women are naturally better shots.:)

Don't forget to teach her how to field strip, clean, and re-oil the pistols too. Women are genetically programed to consider the male of the species to have 3 and only 3 useful social functions:

1>Lawn care
2>Automobile maintenance
3>Firearms care

They'll shoot up your ammo with narry a peep. Sweet talkin' them into cleaning firearms most likely will fail.

It always feels good to introduce someone to shooting.

My ex-wife was nearly in tears the first time she accompanied me to the range. She didn't become my sort of wild-eyed enthusiast, but suffice it to say when we went our separate ways—amicably—she was packing her own .357 magnum.

Way to go, guys. I've introduced a few of the women into the shooting sports. I'd give anything if my wife was able to join me, but it wasn't to be. Still, I love to hear of other women getting involved. One of my work friends has a wife that not only shoots her own guns, but has a CCW permit also. Personally I think this is one of the smartest things a woman can do. Yes they seem to be better naturally at shooting handguns than us. I was told it had a lot to do with the elbows, evidently women's are better shock absorbers or something.:o As waitone said, women take to shooting rather well, use up your ammo, etc.

But when it's cleaning time most will say something like: "Naw, you clean em, yuk, I don't like the smell o' that crap.":D

Hey, well, a little at a time.;)

Yah, I was a little concerned that she wouldn't like the recoil of the P99 in .40 S&W but she must have those "shock absorbing elbows" as she ate up 50+ rounds in short order and was looking for more. And at 50ft she was doing well in the hittin' the target category. Now I just gotta work on the cleanin' part. :D

Also, since she likes the .40 it paves the way for a 1911. If I'd a started at a .25, .38, or .380 I'd have had to make more steps on the way to a .45 (which is the ultimate destination. :D )

Thanks for reminding me of the only other bad thing about taking my famly shooting. I have to clean all of the guns, even my wifes pistol! So lets see, the negatives of taking my wife and kids shooting,
1)They do all the shooting, I load all the mags
2)I have to do all the reloading,
3) I have to clean all of the guns.

The positive things about taking my family shooting,
1) the look of pleasure on the faces of my wife and children as they launch mass amounts of lead down range>

After looking at the negative and positive things about taking my famliy shooting it is easy to see that the positive out weighs all of the negative. Esspecially the look on the face of my 6 year old daughteras she shoots the 10/22. if her grin was any bigger, it would meet in the back and the top of her head would probably fall off!:D That alone makes it all worth it!!!!!!!!
