I have always wanted to try out open class but didn't want the huge investment in an ST framed gun. It got me thinking has anyone here set up a Glock for open? You can get mag extentions, optics mounts, trigger jobs, extended this and that, comped barrels, so why not. It could be the poor mans way into open. Just have to buy a little at a time, start shooting production and as you modify move into limited and then open. What do yall think, good idea or just dumb?

There's no reason it CAN'T work, but be ready for the scornful looks on the faces of those who believe you can't shoot anything but an all-steel gun in Standard or Open :) Seriously, I've got 2 Glocks; my 17 is stock (5 1/2 trigger) and I use that for Production, and my 22 can be set up for Standard OR Open, depending on whether or not I want to take the 2 minutes to attach the red-dot mount and drop a comped barrel in. It's hard to get your splits down to the same time you can get with a single-action pistol, but that's a matter of practice more than anything else.

I shoot a Glock 34. I load 9mm near-max w/ VV N350 and 125gr. FMJ to make major. I have one mag extended to 170mm (Tayor Freelance) and two to 140mm (one Gramms Engineering and one Taylor Freelance). I shoot the same gun for Limited, L-10, and Production, but I have to declare minor for those Divisions.

We have a number of shooters in this area, one in Master Class, who shoot tricked out Glocks in Open Class. I can suggest a Glocksmith who can give you a trigger comparable to that on a 1911. E-mail me.
