I'm gonna get a set but not sure which. I like to shoot with a hat but wonder if the neck thing would get annoying. Anybody got experience with the backband?

I like the back band. Never had an issue with it and being able to wear a hat is a real plus with the design.

I purchased the back band and immediately afterwards wished I had ordered the head band. The back band does not sit as securely with the the Tac-6's. I tried to order a replacement set directly from Peltor and they referred me to an outside company that charges $25 + S/H for them. Heck I only paid $70 bucks for the ears themselves! By the head band and you will be better off.
If anyone reading this wants to trade a head band for a back band let me know and we can trade them out.

Thanks guys. I'm leaning towards the headband.

On me, at least, the weight of the back band tends to torque the muffs over my ears and break the seal, letting in more noise. On the other hand, my friend transplanted a back band from plain muffs to his P7 and loves it.
There is one industrial earmuff that has its spring band behind the head to clear a hardhat, but has a thin nylon band over the top of the head to stabilize everything. I wish Peltor did that.

I have both. The back band is good for wearing brimmed hats and keeping your hair from getting too messy. Don't laugh, it's a legitimate concern for people that shoot during their lunch hours.
The over the top band stays in place better. It also folds up for easier transport. Sometimes, though, if I'm wearing a baseball cap, the little nubbin on the cap gets under the headband and digs into my scalp.
